Too late for me, but you might have saved someone else from the shock!I have modified it.
Have you missed me?I panicked at first, too...as I saw it in Rebecca's reply....I almost started crying...
phew, that was a very close call to my ticker!
I am soooooo glad to have read 'the rest of the story', though!![]()
I've heard that too...haven't been able to test it yet...Yay, new chicks to look forward too.
Now that the deed is done and they are paid for I can say the one thing I have commonly heard about Brahma's. Everything I've read or heard about on here is that the hens are prone to be frequent broodies. They should fit right in with your silkie gals.
They'll figure it out...eventually
These chickens!
Babs flew up to the rafters but failed to land so fell the 11' to ground.
But now it is getting really dark - and probably darker up there without the windows.
So she decides she won't be able to make it up there tonight and is leaving Eli up there alone.
Bernie was already comfortably roosted in her favorite spot and wasn't paying much attention.
So what does Babs try to do? She tries to take Bernie's spot! So Bernie savages her. And Babs just hunkers down.
Next she tries to cuddle up to Bernie who is having none of that!
Now they are both on the roost maybe a foot or so apart from each other and preening in a way that means they don't need to catch each others eye.
I think everyone is unhappy. Babs is clearly nervous about her bunk-mate, Bernie. Eli is all on her own up in the rafters. And Bernie is grumpy at having her routine disturbed.
Even I am not very happy about it because I am sure this is a one-off event and Babs will be right up there tomorrow night. I just hope she doesn't try to go up there in the middle of the night.
As I said,![]()
I absolutely could see her there, my brain just didn’t connect it fast enough is all when I read the title. I am very glad she is safe. She is really tucked up in there, you must have been quite worried. You could see her in the photo.
I was very concerned. I could not find her on any camera. I tried that camera without the spotlight and did not see her. She was no where to be found. Black chickens!I absolutely could see her there, my brain just didn’t connect it fast enough is all when I read the title. I am very glad she is safe. She is really tucked up in there, you must have been quite worried.
Yes, I have missed you...and I was afraid you were REALLY missing Phyllis. I thought 'Oh God no!. And guess what???Have you missed me?
Not a single one of my Light Brahmas have ever gone broody. They are hatchery stock...and despite their size, they are so laid back that they are at the bottom of the pecking order.I've heard that too...haven't been able to test it yet...
Here is a nice feather footed one for you to try nextA member on here Speckledhen has a thread on here somewhere about her Brahma flock. I read it and it seemed every summer at least 1 of her girls went broody. Hers did not come from a hatchery though so maybe hatchery ones are not as prone? I want Brahma's. Actually big or small if it has feathered feet I am attracted to them. Almost all the feather footed breeds seem to have a tendency to go broody. I do not know why I fight it anymore saying I do not want more broody hens. I'm destined for broody girls just like it seems I'm destined to hatch out boys.
