Oh, the drama of it all!
These chickens!
Babs flew up to the rafters but failed to land so fell the 11' to ground.
But now it is getting really dark - and probably darker up there without the windows.
So she decides she won't be able to make it up there tonight and is leaving Eli up there alone.
Bernie was already comfortably roosted in her favorite spot and wasn't paying much attention.
So what does Babs try to do? She tries to take Bernie's spot! So Bernie savages her. And Babs just hunkers down.
Next she tries to cuddle up to Bernie who is having none of that!
Now they are both on the roost maybe a foot or so apart from each other and preening in a way that means they don't need to catch each others eye.
I think everyone is unhappy. Babs is clearly nervous about her bunk-mate, Bernie. Eli is all on her own up in the rafters. And Bernie is grumpy at having her routine disturbed.
Even I am not very happy about it because I am sure this is a one-off event and Babs will be right up there tomorrow night. I just hope she doesn't try to go up there in the middle of the night.
As I said,![]()

Thing is lucky to have your support. Nice job.I've taken to packing Thing out of the coop and up by the garage where Cheetah has been eating breakfast to get her to actually be a chicken.View attachment 3403679 Her nails are getting over grown and she's been staying put. She's getting herself back to the coop just fine. Kind of like photographing a pink egg, isn't it?It is just as hard to photograph a white chick as it is a black chick.
