Éowyn surprised the mailman the other day. She was laying in the sun in front of my car when the mailman arrived to deliver a package. It was really warm out and I had my office window open.
I hear the following....

Oh! Hello there.

I didn't see you there.

Oh my! You're not a dog.

Wow!

You're a big cat aren't you!

It is interesting to me how chickens have such personal likes and dislikes.
At the first ray of sunshine Maggie would always stretch out like she had been felled by a mighty axe.
Not so this lot. It has been bright and sunny all afternoon and all they want to do is eat grass. I think grass may be Bernie’s favorite snack.

Well, you know, that's the difference between Royal Blood & schooling, versus 'marrying into the royal family'. The true Princesses know to take advantage of every luxury!:lau:lau:lau

Pony day, neighbor's horses. Saw them riding their paint a couple of months ago.View attachment 3416213

And Thing being a chicken. Still have to pack her up here to go walkabout work Cheetah's crewView attachment 3416215But yesterday's bathing was near the coop and all on her own initiative.
I just love her - she is so striking in colour! and of course there is that poof! :)

I have been thinking of ways I can gather up Mr P's topnot, so that he can see better. But this week I have been having such migraines that I have been keeping my own topnot loose - normally I wear my hair up - but it was bothering me so much.

Well now I am all worried if I keep Mr P's topnot up he will be uncomfortable with it :(
I don't know what to do now... Maybe I will just try another trimming and see what happens...

8 was all I wanted, lol. Chicken math is running rampant here.
Ya.... here also.... But I know that Penelope, Blanche and Sophia are older gals (my luck they live to be 20!)... I only want a few more chicks but had to get a min of 5 each of the ones I wanted, I guess I can sell any extras....

Cowbirds are used around here too. It's a semi-official nickname.

No snow! so wonderful to see them out and about doing chicken things - love it!

Cow-birds are small - the size of a sparrow pretty much (half the size of a Grackle), and they have brown heads on the males and black bodies, the females are a dowdy brown colour. We have a lot of cowbirds here and they are a pest - they lay their eggs in other birds nests, then the chicks hatch and push the other chicks/eggs out of the nest. This way they don't compete with other birds for food. They are pretty much decimating our song bird population in many places.

They will raise their own, but they are opportunistic at laying in other's nests.

Birdie Tax

It was mayhem tonight in the Hen House with everyone wanting up on those two nest boxes! Brats!
