I am just astonished that someone would take on the task of bringing life into this world without understanding the responsibility that then entails. To do so without any of the basic knowledge associated with the "life" in question shows a complete lack of basic understanding. In short, I wonder how we can trust our children's education to someone who will not educate themselves.

Please know that I am not convicting all teachers, just this one.

For me, seeing such callous disregard for living things is frightening. If chicks are disposable and not worthy of care, what else is?

I agree. I am so thankful in a way that none of Rosie's classes did this. Yes it is a wonderful learning experience to watch them develop and hatch. I think during the incubation process the teacher should have also taken time during science to also get into proper animal husbandry which clearly did not happen. I also feel bad for the children. Many probably did not have farm animals and did not know any better. It is so easy to get attached to the chicks. I tried to stay hands off from the 12 that just hatched and yet I was already falling for them simply by just cleaning and feeding them. I know it broke my neighbors son's heart when his chick died. I imagine there were probably several broken hearted children. I do not think they repeated the experiment. Her younger 2 sons have not said anything about it. For that, I am very grateful for.

There is no need to fill it up. Just because there are 24 slots it does not mean you need to hatch 24 chickens. This is about a learning experience. The same experience cane be had with 6 as 24.

Yea correct I am sending her a dozen, I am going to ask my friend if her daughter wants to hatch any more silkie X eggs I can mix in a bunch of them with my dozen.

EDIT - I will put in maybe 4 of buttercups eggs and the rest silkies if Shannon wants some silkie X egg put in there

I went out to get some 2 for Tuesday photos and for once my chickens were mostly paired up and co-operated.

Sun worshiping Buff Orps. Butter is front and center there.

Dakota again! I just happen to be sitting on my couch, playing a video game on my iPhone. I glanced over next to me, and there was Dakota, watching over my shoulder as I played. So funny!
