Chickens can be full of drama but they are a lot of fun.

They are Mrs BY Bob's favorite bird. She loves vultures.

Soon! Next week my 10 chicks should be arriving - and those in Shannon’s incubator…. If all hatch that will be 16 chicks!!

My only huge worry is getting called for that project last minute. I will need to really sweeten the money pot for mum to care for my chicks.

A Single Tribe Again

All symptoms are gone. The final dose of antibiotics has been given. I have released everyone from isolation and the tribe is one once more.

It was either viral and cleared on its own or bacterial and the enrofloxacin cleared it up. Either way I am celebrating a success. Disaster averted.

I assumed that the Polish were in trouble. They spent yesterday passing in front of the main coop. Back and forth they went. Seeming to taunt those in isolation. I was sure if not Aurora then Sydney would come out and deliver reminders of their place in things.

I was also a little concerned about Hattie. Would Aurora feel threatened by Hattie’s independence.

I was wrong in all of my assumptions.

It may not have been a good thing for Glynda to study under the masters tutelage for 5 straight days. It certainly did Betty no favors.

As soon as she saw Glynda and Lady Featherington come out of the main coop, Betty came over to remind them of their place. Glynda was having none of it. A hen fight very similar to the Hattie v Aurora fight broke out. Sadly I was not ready. I have no video.

It was exceptionally similar because the black hen, in this case Phyllis, tried to break it up. No such luck.

The end result is that Betty lost.

Since the fight Glynda has mounted Betty and chased her again. Again the mounting was so fast I could not get the camera out. I do have some chase video which I will share once I edit it.

I do have video of Hattie reminding the victor of her place beneath Hattie in the order. As soon as the fight was over Hattie took care of that.

I have deep sympathy for poor Betty. It can't be fun to lose like that.

Aurora has pecked no one. There was no need apparently. It is interesting that she may have found her own Sansa.

I am sure there are more events to come. Stay tuned.

Perhaps a statue of the victor is in order.....

Chicken politics is the best

I gave up on a garden here at the barn, I might plant pole beans though if I am going to be here for the summer. Will need to figure out a way to protect them though!

If Phyllis goes broody this year I am going to let her hatch. If not, no chicks her.

Sydney I would consider. Lady Featherington would need to go through 1 cycle to prove she had staying power.
Phyllis has really earned it. Especially after my failed attempt to give her chicks to raise. I know that Phyllis will stick it out.

The chicks that hatch can't stay. So we will need to find them a good home. Because of that I don't want every hen hatching all year.

Honestly Sydney has never shown any desire to hatch again. Those kids must have ran her ragged

I think that is what happened with Henny Penny hahaha she went broody on mice last summer for a couple weeks then snapped out of it and that was that!

0ur rain will start at sunset and continue for the next 48 hours or so. Predicting around 3 inches throughout the remainder of the week. And we desperately need it.

that's okay - it will be nice weather soon, so no worries about her driving to the casino to lose her hard earned money!
