Sophia laid a lovely egg, only problem was a chunk of calcium which I picked off. The whole shell came away leaving the membrane.

Well actually I have been saving eggs from the 'big girls' for that teacher where my niece teaches. I figure I am going to give her 7 eggs - that's more than plenty I think; and any Roos can be processed, but I don't want any Silkie crosses as those are just too small.

Sophia is a nice chunky girl and a Roo would have been a good size. Well always tomorrow's egg. I have a couple of Blanche eggs, another Penelope egg, and a few Buttercup blue eggs, and hopefully a Sophia egg... I will pick 7 eggs from all those to go in the bator (Penelope's for sure).

I have never seen such a thing before - the shell came away leaving just the membrane! If it were me hatching them out I would 'repair' the shell and hope for the best.

Yes! You should NEVER pick calcium deposits - what happened to you is very common when you do....when it is big spots. (shouldn't pick sandpapery ones either - but that is frequently because they tend to be fragile - but not always - just a higher probability)

Hi all. I made a seperation “coop” inside my coop for Peep the rooster, it’s just a divided section. He flies up to the top very well so i utilized as much space as i could. He has been really aggressive with the ladies sense they are to tall to properly mate, how does this look? Any thoughts? (Wondering if it might be a bit to small for him.) So, it is kind of hard to tell the dimensions - so hard to say for sure. However, you do have some really nice 'up' space for him with a good amount of assorted roosts and perches...so I will go out on a limb and say 'yes'

Poor guy - just can't catch a break (with a lovely lady, that is!)

Yea it was very callus of me! Picking at poor Sophia’s egg!

Would it not be wise to not use an egg like those?
If the hen accidentally knocked that chunk off wouldn’t it be really bad?

Old lady neighbor called me to check out her plumbing leak. It’s inside the wall somewhere. I don’t want to be Mr. Plumber to help her with this. I’m frustrated with her because she’s using me. A plumber would cost a fortune. And she thinks that I am happy to work for free! What is it with people like that?

It's always nice to help people, especially older people.
But I agree, it is kinda frustrating when someone tells you to do something when they can call professionals to do it themselves.

You can say "i am not sure about that - I'm not a plumber and can't tell where the leak is coming from, nor if I could fix it.' It is okay to say 'sorry, that is beyond my abilities. She is probably thinking - he is such a nice man, and, tbh, plumbers are quite expensive and many on a fixed income really can't afford it.

Any help that you are p$&s about giving isn't really helpful - as it causes you stress (which you can't afford with your high blood pressure), and resentment which leads to poor relations with neighbors.

Neighbors can be helpful and neighborly, and still set boundaries.
