I had an Exchequer Leghorn - was supposed to be a pullet, but turned out to be a roo. He had a lot of black also, but had that gloriously large leghorn comb! (only the hens' are floppy...) He was a gorgeous boy...I rehomed him with one of my pullets from that groups as someone wanted to get a roo (she had 8 older hens (2-4y.o.) I just didn't think it was fair for him to be in quarantine all alone, which is why I sent one of 'his girls' with him.

I asked for $5, what I was charged for her/him as a chick. When she came and picked up the 2, she gave me 40 for the pair (the pullet was a FBCM) - they were about 10 wks old. He has grown into a fine gentleman! :)

Anyway, I digress. The amount of black/white varies just like anything else. If you have a brother or sister - are their hair color exactly the same color as yours?

The pictures below are all Exchequer leghorns. Note the wide variation in black to white ratio.

regardless, Josey is gorgeous!
Yes the roosters have more black but the hens have more white and judging the color and pattern and the fact I know my chickens thats an Ancona.

Ya there are a few of us Canadians here: Kris, lexicon, me, you 😁

It is now 27c and gorgeous, the chickies were out and about but they found it too hot and went under the trees for shade, um nope now in the barn where it's cool.

Or maybe just a snack...

That's really warm! This is when the chickens wish they could take off their feathers

Clearly you didn't look at all the photos. There is a pair - hen & roo - where BOTH are nearly ALL black. There is variation throughout the breed. She probably came from a different hatchery/breeder, with a different line from the one you got yours at.

Is Josey's comb a leghorn comb? Maybe Bob would know.

Hmm. I would still say she is a EL. Lemme look up and see about her comb.
Don't worry about it Big Roo 🤗

Just trust in the hatchery, and as long as you received hen instead of a rooster I say it's all good! and at the end of the day it's a chicken, and they all poop on you the same 😁😁😁
