Twofer Tuesday - most of Peanut Butter and Flour tiptoeing through the violets.

Update: Brownie decided sitting on a nest was boring. I did get a good look into the nest box and her feathers were everywhere, so it appears she was plucking some out. She must have been seriously considering it.

One of my pullets, a White Rock is broody! She has sat consistently for 2 days now (well 1.5 days - 2 nights). This weekend I will move her to the broody tractor and give her some eggs to hatch. (Maybe tomorrow night if it stays nice enough for me to clean it out and prep it with new bedding, food & water) I have never had one go broody this early...they usually wait until late June or July (or August, like last year!)

If she sticks it out, she will get the 'special leg band' Those are for my hens that brood - and it means they get to stay as long as they live.

I got the broody tractor cleaned out and she is in there on 2 fake eggs....if she stays broody with the move,
I'll put some eggs under her tomorrow night.

She sure did screech when I picked her up, and pecked me twice while I was trying to feel how many eggs she was on - none, she evidently won't let the others into her almost triple wide nest box...all she was on was one golf ball. Everyone else laid in the corner of the coop - of course, the far corner!

But, this is a good sign - her being flat as a pancake, screeching, and defending her nest from the others - she should make a good mom with that attitude!

I know what I am dealing with now, and missed him last night. Huge coyote, startled me and I thought it was my CeeCee coming out of the creek until I saw the ears. Was not outside yet as it was about 10:30 and the chickens went crazy so threw on the light and made it to the bottom step out back when I spotted it. By the time mom got out with the shotgun he was already back across the creek and she saw him for 2 seconds before he got out of sight. Thankfully year round open season and no limits on coyotes, we'll get him.

That is so scary. I hope you get him soon.

Thanks for asking Kelly. He is expecting to go home today. He rested well last night. He has to see the physical therapist and occupation therapist then his ICU doctor is expected to send him home.

Mom is out there by herself waiting right now. We know he likes chicken, cooking chicken for dinner and my brother always cuts the fat off. Mom took the chicken fat and dumped it about 2 feet inside the yard directly in front of the coop. He makes a appearance tonight, bye bye mr. coyote.

She sounds like she will be a wonderful mother if she keeps it up.

I gave up my S8 a couple of years ago for an S21. I miss my S6 Edge. That was the best phone I ever had.
