This is a Dorking chicken:

@RoyalChick
I found a picture of Foxy where it shows her baldness on head due to grabbing/pecking. I still need to take a close up. It doesn't look great, right?

Do you people notice a visitor on the right? 😁

Many hens bully on Foxy, but nothing serious. Foxy is very fast and agile. I feel like she can win all these fights if she wanted to, but instead, she just makes her cute complain noise and runs away. I think she respects the senior hens. 😛

Meimei is the only other junior. I don't see Generation 1 bullies her at all. My explanation is Foxy is more of a threat?
I'd like to respond here but I feel I'm just short of enough information. Can you elaborate?

We have names.
Meet Mazzie in honor of Ezzie

And meet Sprite playing off Momma Grouchy Gryffyns mythical theme name.

Rosie also named the black one Sprout

Goose's other 3 are not named. I really only wanted to give Sprite and Mazzie names as that is the 2 hopeful keepers but Rosie had other ideas. Once she has them out and about the other 3 will most likely be named as well. Both Momma's had no desire to come off the nest today but tomorrow I'm hopeful they will have them out streching their legs a little bit. I also moved Gryffyn and her 2 to the coop in their own tote tonight. The chicks are rambunctious and want out from under her. I was afraid Louis might step on them if they got away from her.
Welcome to the world little ones!

@lightm was commenting on how Foxy's back of her head was bald like Babs (@RoyalChick ) was. Seems that there is a lot of dominatrix hens out there 😲

I can just picture Bernie in a bustier brandishing a riding crop (short whip) 😁

Farewell

My Ginger left us and went to chicken heaven, in the morning of April 24th, 2023. She was 25 months old. She stayed with us for her first 17 months and was the unquestionable alpha hen.

I am very fortunate that this is the first time I lost one in my 25+ months of chicken keeping, if she even counts as we rehomed her 8 months ago. (knock on wood)

We picked up Ginger and 7 other babies on March 12th, 2021 at our local feed store. I am pretty sure they got their chicks from some big hatchery.

Ginger was a freedom lover. She got out of the fence all the time.

She is the best with treats and a great forager.

She's named Ginger because we were not creative with names and she was the darkest among all golden buffs.

She was not overly sweet. But when she wants to be on your lap, she really let you know and demanded to be picked up.

In August 2022, Inky was bullied very bad by Ginger (perhaps because Inky molted after going broody) so we sent Ginger to my friend.

Goodbye, Ginger, we will always remember you. We will keep talking about you as the escape artist. I am glad that you are pain free now.

Thank you RC.

I forgot to say that Ginger probably had ascites. She had water belly. I don't think it was a simple sour crop issue, if she had it. :-(
I am so sorry to hear she passed, @lightm . :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs
Ascities - there isn't much you can really do for that. You can give them temporary relief by draining their abdominal fluid, but it will just come back....and it is usually a sign of other things going wrong. I'm sure she knew you loved her, and she will probably enjoy her freedom now that she is free of her land-bound body.🕊️

Rest in peace Ginger. May your mealworms never run out. May your grass always be green and tasty. :hugs :hugs
