How is Daddy handling everything!
I feel for Branch right now, and I know he is exhausted and will sleep well tonight. He tries but he cannot be everywhere at once. He is not abandoning the marshmallows yet also feels the need to supervise the other new mothers at the same time. Seeing as how they cannot share the same space the poor boy has ran back and forth all day long. I know he is tired, tonight he did not even try to get up on the roost, he waited for me to come lift him up on it. If it were possible, I would say in a few more weeks he would have a head full of grey feathers.

She is doing well, I went out this morning and this afternoon to check on her and give her the opportunity to eat some mash or get up if she wished to. She declined leaving the nest but did eat some.

I peaked under her this afternoon for just a few seconds because I just had to see if anything was happening. I saw one egg clearly zipping and it looked to making quite a bit of progress!

Today is the 21st day plus the low temperature due to the faulty incubator issue I had for the first two days I am unsurprised they are on the late side of normal to begin to hatch.
Was that the egg you thought might be cracked?

I started with my three when they were about 10 days old and worked up to were they are now, tomorrow they will be three weeks old. And now I trust them to not get clobbered by the older ladies, and know how to take care of themselves, and hide from anyone who wants to attack them.

It takes time though, you need to keep an eye on them while they are out and about.
Most importantly there must be a place they can escape to without being followed by the big ladies. If they have that they are fairly safe. I try not to mix wear they can be touched until after 6 weeks myself.

So...hmmm....They're twisting genetics into pretzels or something's missing in the genetic calculations.
Mutts always eggciting to see what you get 😊

Egg colour should be easy, dark brown eggs from mamas and a white polish egg will mean light brown eggs. As far as I can figure from egg charts!

Poor wee fella 😊 he needs a mini me son to show the ropes to. You need to get some more silkies and keep a Roo to help him!

Many people hold more than one emotion at once and more than one thought at once. Just the other day I was watching a video of Billy Bragg (a noted atheist) singing Jerusalem (a noted hymn, sung in churches) and someone in the comments naively called him out for it - they didn't realise he was demonstrating solidarity with the Women's Institute, whose hymn it is (the WI was bequeathed the copyright) and solidarity with the workers of yesteryear whose labour built the wealth of the owners of the 'dark satanic mills' in the first chorus. Anyway, Bob holding numbness from grief at the same time as connecting with the living is emotionally adept.
I have never thought of it in this way before. I learn from you constantly. Thanks for popping in. :hugs

I am really surprised nat how well they have adapted! If it wasn’t for Marty I would not worry so much, as it is if I need to run up to the house I have to catch the little turnips and put them in their bin.

They are getting wise to me now and it’s getting hard to catch them! Today I had to lure them to me to catch them.

Next week I will feel better about letting them run at large all the time, they can fly really well so they can get away from Marty. And there are no shortages of places to hide.

God bless him. He is an amazing rooster. Gosh I just love that fellow.
