They do seem rather adept at getting into trouble.
Mine are now over three weeks old (not yet 4 weeks) and are using the fire escape ladders to scamper up and down, but they are also just flying straight up or down the 4' or so to their little house.
But what they do is fly into my storage area and then get scared because they are on their own. When that happens they shriek like they are being murdered until I come to shoo them back to the fire escape. I got myself a nice little branch they can hop on to so I can elevator ride them down because they are often way higher than I can reach, and if I have to climb a ladder for every shrieking chick I will for sure eventually break my neck!

Why do all your chickens fly so much?

Not a good bum shot, but a nice photo of the guy hatched last summer that I wasn't going to keep...but he 'adopted' the girls who were 4+ months older than him (and roosterless), and was so good with them, he EARNED his right to stay!

Now that's a smart rooster!

Others, not so easy!

The picture of Eli was the best shot I could get of her perching on my hand while I carry her away from her nest and get some food into her.

I won again today with Rice Krispies and cat food. But she only stayed out ten minutes before rushing back to the nest. I thought of closing the door so she couldn’t get back in to the hen house but Bernie needed to lay an egg and I feel life is stressful enough for Bernie without me adding that problem.

Hello everyone. I took a day break as it was Rosie's birthday yesterday and wow am I behind. I did see where @Ponypoor is worried about Martina being a boy because of sparring. Looking at current pictures and video's I am sorry I do not see a boy. That soft gold color on her to me screams pullet. I feel if it was a young cockerel they would be more of a brighter orange or red. Pullets can fight with the best of them. The Marshmallows have frequent sparring matches to this day trying to assert dominance. Remember when Corona was a chick? She was the only pullet in her hatch and had 7 brothers. If you had went by behavior you would have swore she was a young cockerel. She was the dominate chick and whipped every single one of her brothers daily. She is still fairly high up on the pecking order. If someone challenges Butter occasionally, it is Corona. She also stands up and starts fights with Momma Hen the crazy girl. By the pictures you posted of the teens yesterday I say you have 2 pullets and a cockerel. Now, If i am wrong, I will admit it later....when one crows.

I am torn as to whether tovtrust you in boy identification or not. So many of your wanted pullets have turned into cockerels over time. I'm just not sure anymore.

Finally!
I have been trying to get a picture of all five little fluffy butts and just now I was rewarded.
Vitamin B laced mash outside of their little house on the top of the fire escape turned out to be the key to making this happen.
It will be no surprise to anyone that Piglet was the first to find it. But I am happy that Sylvie (who is the one I worry might need vitamin B supplements) had a healthy portion.

Toss them down the stairs. Graded by the step they land on.
