No time for taking pictures today. I had an inspector visit about that mushroom growing in my bathroom and the lack of soundproofing.
Then my dear neighbour and old friend fixed my hosepipe, bless him it took ages

Meanwhile. Tina had layed another egg without a shell :( her fluffy was all sticky so I'm afraid she had too be washed and then of course I had to wash and clean both of my girls legs and feet as prevention of bumble foot.

Yes, they are all English Jubilee Orpington’s just like LF :) I absolutely fell in love with her look. 🥰 I was surprised they hatched out yellow lol 😂 I never looked up what they would look las babies beforehand. Their lovely speckled feathers are just beginning to show themselves.

I have mama and the babies separated from the flock sadly. Peanut is the primary reason why. She is like the crazy unpredictable Auntie in personality. She grabbed one of the chicks by the leg and flung it when Brownie first tried to take them out into the run. The chick was fine but it scared me quite a bit.

I will begin integrating them back around the middle to end of the second week and I hope to have them all in the coop by the end of the third week before Brownie decides she is done 🤞

I am actually hoping to get a boy so I hope your right! Orpington Roos have a decent reputation so we will see if I can get lucky and land a keeper. No guarantees but I will sure try!

The mesh looks good and I will keep it mind, hopefully they will grow swiftly and be able to be contained by the pen I have for integration but if not I will surely use this stuff, it looks very useful to have handy.
Well, don't let that one episode deter you - I have had my share of those incidents, and if they are just simple single 'I will peck you' situations then the chicks will learn really darn fast to stay away from the others.

Penelope grabbed Marty (I think it was) by the wing and threw her across mount poopmore - I was totally freaked out but it was my fault as I just turned away for a minute to check the others.

After that I made sure all outings were watched closely - whenever anyone got too close I would quietly direct them away. Same as with my Broodies - I sat on my lawn chair and watched to make sure no one got too close. A few times there were brawls and that one time the other day with Mr P pecking the chick.

But I have to say, today everything so far is quiet - thank goodness. Of course I am running out and checking everytime I hear a squawk - and now Dorothy has come up here so I am going to shush her away. No sense tempting fate!

If I were you I would continue to bring them out daily, sit on your lawn chair for 30 min or so and then return them to their safe run. Pretty soon you will be able to just let them out and keep an eye out for anything silly the others might do. But those chicks will surprise you and learn really fast to get the heck away from the bigger meanies! Look at my Tweens! They are 4 weeks old and fully - and I do mean fully - integrated into the flock - they even run after the others when they try to escape out on Mt Poopmore, and just now when I threw out scratch grain they were in the thick of things :) And that is all because I controlled the initial beginning introduction and made sure that they learned to run away fast from anyone (Marty) who was chasing them.

A lawn chair is your best friend!

I doubt these are true Italian leghorns. We are getting them from a very local breeder whose mission is to supply layers for all the rural households around us. I just asked her to pick four of her more healthy hens, and she said two would be leghorns (the other two are dark hybrid layers, which are Marans crossed with a high production type I think).

I will definitely update you about them, it's the least I can do!
I look forward to your update :)

Marty plopped out a soft egg last week - it went splat on the ground and she whipped around and ate it up ! what a velociraptor! She has laid regular eggs since then - these chickens make us worry don't they!

And I am so glad someone came to look at the damp issue in your bathroom - finally! I sure hope there is some resolution to that.
