Not much better. I’m going to run a Covid test to check on myselfYea we both have issues. Got rid of my headache I hope you feel better!
Oh the joys of broody hens. Sophia just lets everyone come into the nestbox lay their egg and leave - she has quite the collection under her. I took most of them out and heve them lined up on my laptop as I forgot to bring any egg cartons down here - must go and get some while I am thinking of it.....Tomatilla is broody!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, big news- she is broody.
Tomatilla is sitting and sitting and sitting and this morning she came down, dumped a HUGE poop, went buk-buk-buk while eating (just like your video of Eli, RC) and went back to her nest. Then, Miss Stupid Dawn decided that it would be a great idea to STEP on Tomatilla.
Man, did Dawn get a beating! Tomatilla screamed, pecked at Dawn. Dawn honked and then Tomatilla screamed more and played merry-go-round or ring-around-the-rosy with Dawn, grabbing her neck and tossing her off the top of the rabbit hutch. I was watching all this.
Tomatilla is now sitting on Mary's egg, and Samantha's egg, as well as her own egg that she laid yesterday.
Alex ! hahaha - don't listen to him Miss Bee.You will need two things
1. A pregnancy
2. Killer instinct for blood
They are both gorgeous! I have been battling the temptation to order the dark brahma chicks that are finally on the website for sale from my breeder of choice. They do not sell eggs for this breed/color so chicks is the only way I could get them from this particular breeder. Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, wait till next year is my mantra but I can’t say I’ll listen to the mantra with 100% certaintyThoughts... ?
Sooooo looks like Sophia is broody, she is back in the nest box and stealing eggs, I tried to take her eggs away but she gently tucked them back under her - I couldn't take them it would be heartless.
Now don't go getting thinking I am setting her on eggs - NOPE not happening don't need any more Roos. But, I just called Freys to see about getting some pullets: Blue Azures (blue eggers) and Noirans (chocolate eggers). They drive orders up to the local feed store every other week. So on the 21st they will bring up a bunch more.
So what if I got say 4 or 6 pullets? and shoved under Sophia - she would be the only hen I would give chicks to now, and only because she is getting old and she seems to be wanting to have some babies - she has been very interested in the school chicks.

The cheeky dark chippie just caught a mosquito in the coop. They do eat them. They're just hard to find/catchI know they eat black flies - one of the chicks was on my lap and caught a black fly as it was flying!!! Wish they would eat the mosquitoes!
I HAD NekBother and Sam, but I have to many boys so off they went packing to freezer camp. But that happened recently and one of the boys got active so they are fertilized now. I am getting Colombian Rock hatching eggs this evening, so they might be eligible to pop?Oh the joys of broody hens. If you don't have a rooster will you get her some fertilized eggs? or chicks to pop under her? Or I guess you have enough chickes now...
