Hello FBA enablers!
First, I'd like news from @featherhead007 . Sorry I didn't get back to you on the dosage, but you got the answers- I went to bed right after posting. How is your favourite leghorn today ?

I'm posting also today for some educated, or / and fun guesses on our 19 days old chicks. I fear we may have striked a @RebeccaBoyd - I'm guessing out of six, only one is a pullet for sure 😯. Any input would be appreciated! (We can re-home one or two roos, but not five or six.)

Number 1 and 2 have been screaming cockerels since they were four days old. Number 4 is my pullet ; number 5 I think could be as well🤞. I'm on the fence about number 3 and 6. What would you say ?

Numéro 1. I bump chest, have big feet, never do what mum says and hang out with n°2 all the time : 90% boy.

Number 2 : big feet, big comb, always on his own or with n°1. 100% cockerel.

Number 3 : ratty tail and shredded feather but big comb and big in size. 60%male.

Number 4 : tiny, delicate, no comb, always with mum. 90% pullet.

Number 5 : small in size, but big feet and comb. 55%male.

Number 6 : big chick, smaller feet, attitude. 60% cockerel!

And a bonus question. This is the daddy of four of the chicks, he belongs to an elderly neighbour. What kind of rooster do you think it is ?

Thank you everyone, and wishing you all a pleasant Wednesday.
After my epic failure on predicting those Silkies gender hahaha - all I can say is they are darn cute! And that Roo is gorgeous.

But yes #1 look like a Roo. I would wait another week to really know. I waiting till mine were 4 weeks old, now I am fairly sure about the gender.

Hen-Rietta is still with us. It’s storming and lightning here, but she is warm and comfortable inside with me. She is probably not going to make it through the morning. But if by some miracle she eats something, there’s a chance. :fl
Well here is hoping she eats something - did you try a raw egg ? mine go nuts for that...

I lost the little silver based americauna chick overnight. I was worried about that one. Even though I insisted the employee show me butts I somehow missed that it had a bad case of pasty butt. I did not catch it until it had been home about 3 hours. I got it all cleaned off eventually but it was like cement when found. At least the poor little chick had a real momma hen for a day. The rest are doing well and it is cemented in Raven's head that all those chicks are hers.
Awww so sorry to hear that - chicks are so fragile.

But I am glad Raven has a nice big brood to raise up.

Today's nesting drama....

All at the same time.

Storm has taken over Mera's spot. Mera is now up on the roosts complaining. Storm then stepped out of Mera's box and is pacing the rest, unable to evict any so far. Twirp came in and left again. Indigo is pacing and complaining outside. Babies are oblivious.

Thank you for your opinions! I know you are right, just have to wait another ten to 15 days 😊. They certainly seem to change every day!
Daddy is beautiful! Black breasted silver, straight comb...could be several things. If he's got yellow legs, silver penciled Plymouth Rock is a possibility. I'm also sure there are breeds known to France that aren't very well known in the States.
I also found him very beautiful when I saw him free ranging several times walking down the village. It took me a long time to find out who he belonged to because he was always hanging out with a lovely hen in a garden... that wasn't his🙂!
We don't have so many breeds that are not present in the US, those are mostly local regional breeds, that would be hard to find where I live.
I’ll check in later. I’m going to give her my attention now.
:hugs :hugs :hugs:hugs

Well here is hoping she eats something - did you try a raw egg ? mine go nuts for that...
She was presented with many different kinds of food. She doesn’t eat. Just stands there and stares out at nothing.
I will not force feed her. I’m holding her close to me now.

I've gotten used to adults scattered all over: up under the lilac by the deck, staging a raid on the patio, under the deck where the wood pile was, visiting the horses down below, in the carport, out along assorted hedges. The last couple of days, the weather has been much warmer (@ 70F) and rains have skirted around us. The adults....ALL of them, have been glued to the olive trees, the dusty patch above the coopView attachment 3530309(Pear standing in the bottom of the dusty patch, olives in background), and the next tree line closer (excepting breakfast time)View attachment 3530306(Seen behind Hector's head)

They're taking baby raising (even without a broody mama) seriously. I heard a call from Whiskey today which had Twirp and Nellie bolting across an open area to get under some of the shrubs, where they froze. Looking around, there was a bird flying up the valley: long narrow tail, narrowish wings (bird ID: similar profile to a Kestrel).
A kite of some kind? Would be bigger than a kestrel…

Great moxy you have there 😊

Now tell me why I need to get 4 chicks to put under Sophia …. ?
Because, it is the right thing to do! 😉 She wants babies...so, you gotta either let her hatch some (and get mixed boys & girls) OR buy her a few pullet chicklets for her to raise. It is only fair to her.:D
