Ok I am making a announcement, Twig is going to have to be rehomed. I tried, thought things had got better and he just attacked and cornered Branch. If I had not gotten him off Branch he probably would have killed him. As it is Branch is limping and shaken up. I love Twig, he is beautiful. Branch is my baby though and he comes first.
Hopefully you can rehome Twig into somewhere that is not Freezer Camp. For most of my spare boys that is the outcome, if I cannot rehome them.

We had a Kestrel get on of our chickens when we first moved here. She couldn't even lift the hen...she tried eating it right there....my husband was nearby and ran over, but she was already dead. Squeezed her neck with her talons and don't know exactly what caused the death - suffocation or exsanguination - or a combo. The girl was a decent sized hen, too, not one of my smaller ones......Kestrels are fearless.:(
The boys all sounded off alerts, the girls in the open ran for overhead cover and EVERYONE froze.........

Boys sounded OK (not all's well: crowing). Girls started edging back out to browse some more, cautiously. They definitely know the kestrels are threat potentials. They're also staying fairly close to the coop. Not entirely sure if because of the babies or because of the kestrel. It was several days ago, but I'm still not really seeing ladies going off alone, either. Dunno if I'll ever know. I'm just glad the boys are so vigilant.

Hard to bathe when siblings are hogging the dust bath:gig

Actually, I am amazed at how often chickens will walk on/over/through or crawl under other chickens if it suits their fancy!
Without much regard for status, either. It's only when the HARD STARE followed by the PECK comes out that the lower ranked give way.

You mean you have EVEN MORE than that??!

I was outside gathering eggs when I heard the commotion of their fight. He had Branched penned up in the corner of the coop where he could not get away. I came very close to wringing his neck when I tossed him off of him. I like Twig, but he will not kill his daddy.
