Great another Tornado Warning!
Sure hope you are ok, crazy weather this year.

Do you have a ‘evacuation plan’ for you animals? I find this very interesting to hear about persons plan for emergencies like forest fire, tornadoes, snow storms etc.

Broodyness from Willow
Dear Queen Aurora,
I have never written to you before, but I am a huge fan.
My name is Willow, I'm a Barnevelder, I'm a little younger than a year old -Well, that's what Mom thinks- and I'm broody...
I have a very large amount of eggs, which Mom has no idea the number, and I really want to hatch them. I've been super grumpy, and I've been growling at BBQ, Bolt, and even Alpha Splotch. I've only pecked BBQ and Bolt though.
Well, and Mom. She has a big peck mark from me. I'm very proud of it. It even was bleeding a little.
Tonight it was raining a lot, so I moved back a little, and not all of my eggs fit under me, but there was no going back. I covered as many eggs as I could, and used myself as a rain blocker. I got soaking wet.
Mom says that if any hatches, she is gonna give them all to a friend.
Is it even worth it, hatching these out if I'm not even going to get to raise them for long?
Your biggest follower,
Willow the Broody Barnevelder
Oh we need a photo of this beauty 😊

Went out to close the coop.

Head count: 21 adults, 4 babies....wait a minute....4...where are Shan and Chia?

Do smart thing and grab Havoc to go look.

Havoc: peep peep, twitter, twitter
Magpies: screech, screech
Crows: caw caw
Curlews: Eeeuuuuuu Eeeuuuuuu
Babies:............

Below neighbor comes down the road (his driveway is still flooded). We stop and talk (Havoc is adorable and totally charms him). He's getting a puppy (good, will be trained from first to not chase the birds. Also, he's lonely. Wife had a stroke isn't doing well, likely in assisted living permanently). He headed on down to feed the horses. I took Havoc back to the coop.

Found this:

View attachment 3543588Dunno where the little imps were at, but they perched even higher.... went down to show him. He decided to mow before feeding the horses.

I fed the horses. Horses happy, neighbor, cheered up a bit, chooks all present and accounted for, kid made it back to base, long day.
My they can be challenging at times. Glad all are safe and sound.

Whoa 😳 I know that feeling of where are you little brats! And immense relief when you find them.

Sorry to hear about your neighbour’s troubles always really sad.

Amazing how differently each of them eats! Aurora just crashed in and grabs a HUGE hunk rips it off. Hattie carefully looks it over and decides the best place to take a Lady-like bite. Sydney take a bite with a lady like countenance, but a good bite for what looks to be more delicate!🤗🤗

And NO SQUABBLING!! oh my, my chooks need to watch this video!! 🙄 But then, I guess it needs to be an all out scrum if you are to get any when you are competing with 65-70 other chooks!
With only 6 hens I really get to see the pecking order at work during times like these. It leads to more orderly treat consumption when I am hand feeding. Only Glynda really tries to violate the order. The rest know their place and turn. Sydney wants to eat sooner but doesn't want to fight Hattie over it.

I am just missing Eli. She rounded them all up when she wanted to go in. I never really noticed how important that was to me being able to close up for the night.
Now they are running wild without parental oversight!
:hugs :hugs She really was like a mum to them.

If only we lived in the same country Foggy would be mine. I may have promised mom no more silkie roosters. I never promised no more silkie hens. Until I have a black silkie hen bebopping around again my flock will not be complete.
Oh I would so smuggle her over to you hahahaha, she is also very friendly, the white one is not at all friendly, she goes off does her own thing, can run like a race horse… but once you get hold of her she is fine. And she loves meal worms 😊

Thirsty Thursday and Fluffy Butt Friday

Fluffy Butts

Tiny fluffy butts, Brownie is laying again and seems to mostly ignores the littles. They still follow her though around though when they are out foraging.

Bonus cute tween pics and video. Notice the color pattern difference? I suspect I have two Roos and three pullets. Lore has clear red big comb and wattle development. Story has a big comb but no red and no wattles yet. But the color patterns seem to seal the deal. If anyone has any guesses on this I’d love to hear them.
