I think at most places they are not exposed to chickens... Though here most everyone at the feed mills have chickens.
EDIT - also here only certain store employees are allowed to handle the sales chicks for biosecurity reasons.

Thanks Bob (and RC). I have ordered the Baytril. Hope to get the terramycin and amoxicillin ordered today.Amoxicillin is a good first use antibiotic. Ciprofloxacin is a good broad spectrum antibiotic. So those would be 2 worth having.
As of yesterday morning, All Bird Products still had enrofloxacin which is the generic form of Baytril. That is a broad spectrum antibiotic which also treats mycoplasma. I would recommend that over the cipro because of the additional coverage.
It definitely makes a difference how knowledgeable the employees taking care of the chicks are, and if they give a damn. They way they are shipped and housed in the store lends itself to several developing pasty butt, and some staff don’t care or hate having to treat it. Unfortunately that is true at a lot of the feed stores. You can have a little better luck getting the chicks shipped straight to you, but that is always going to be a little bit of a gamble. When I eventually am ready for more I am hoping Ideal has what I want in stock. I found out they are only about 30 minutes from me and I think they allow you to pick them up direct (but you aren’t allowed anywhere inside where the chickens are kept or hatched for bio security reasons). We've had pretty good luck with chicks from TSC but I guess that can vary from store to store.
Like Greg said, you definitely have to plan your day to do things really early or really late. And make absolutely sure everyone has shade, ventilation/breeze/fans, and fresh water that isn’t so hot it is about to boilI was wondering about those of you in texas. My sister has been sending me reports. They hit 111 at their house a couple of days ago. Been pulling up the garden a month early, things died off fast.
My nephew was on the local all star team and they had to forfeit the first game in this last round (which they weren't told until after it was played,) because one of their players collapsed from the heat right before the game started.
Heat tax, three chickens!
