When you temperatures are steady everyone gets a chance to acclimate - which is a good thing!

I am so happy to hear your hen is doing better - makes a person really nervous when they are not well.
Acclimated or not, we just had a bit of a scare just now. I decided to take a couple hours of leave and go check on the chickens. Husband was off helping a neighbor. This is what I found. They were all overheated, but Sheba was really distressed.
I set up a fan, not that it did much, it's pretty breezy. We got those frozen jugs out and put them around. I gave them frozen veggies. Sheba had me particularly worried. At one point she kind of climbed up and hugged the waterer. My husband stuck one of the ice jugs against her breast and she leaned into it.
So we switched out the 2nd waterer with a 2nd jug and she snuggled into them. She stopped making this awful clucks. I'll check her again in a few.
I'm really worried about tomorrow when it's 10 degrees hotter.
Can you put a fan for Eanie?? Move the air a bit for her.
We opened the egg door on the back of the nest area and covered it with a grate so she can't come out, but there's a breeze coming in. We also have her some frozen veg and she ate a little, but she's not inclined to move. She's not panting and really seems the best off of all of them.

Of course, in the middle of all this, before my husband got home, Manny managed to escape for the first time ever. So I got to wrangle him back. If it weren't the ladies calling him in distress, he'd likely still be out. If it weren't for this big dog running loose in the neighborhood, I'd consider letting them out. It was cooler under the trees.

I haven't really looked into HOW to breed a frizzle. I looked long enough to learn 2 things.

1. Frizzle to frizzle makes incredibly brittle feathers, that can break in a light breeze (we got WIND).

2. The feathers don't work well to keep them warm in winter. We have WINTER.

Instant decision: they're cute and getting any/breeding any without special facilities for them wouldn't be fair to them. hard no. No need to learn more about them.
Ya they are the pits in the cold, anything colder than -20C and they really suffer. I bought that sweeter heater for them this past winter and I watched them spend a lot of time under it - when Penelope wasn’t hogging it!

And am not really interested in breeding any myself, too much risk with getting cockerels, and let’s face it, not much on a silkie to put in freezer camp! I was just curious.

Silkies are blessed that way!

Holy Dinah you had a time didn’t you 😳

Glad you caught Manny - that must have been terrifying for you.

Glad you were able to help the chooks - also must have been scary, is there anyway to extend your run under the trees?

Agreed. I'm constantly fascinated by the variety

Example:View attachment 3559135Shan (Havoc almost perfect behind)

Mother: Primula or Belladonna (dark Brahma)

Father: Kren (due to green legs)

My Rose was like that last year and I know what you mean I was really panicked. I put the fans running on all them full blast.

Heavy panting but I am glad she cooled down, can you put a couple of fans in there to keep them cooled down?

Sorry shouldn’t chuckle at herding Manny 😊

Do you never let them all out and about? Free ranging while you’re out with them? You can then train them to come running back with the shaking of a feed bowl. I have a few that like to break free and I just shake the bowl and then come running for a treat.

I think crele has black and white barred and red and white barred. Shan is just gold barred, like Cheetah's stripes, so it's gold penciled, I think....?....
