I say, we hang them from their firecrackers 🧨!
Also the fireworks are allowed from dusk to 10pm. It is now 10;50 and still going, my neighbour behind me, his cattle are all mooing poor beasties. City people who move up here during Covid are the big culprits, they don’t know anything.

Rants rants rants tax

Everyone seems ok, I have the two fans going full blast so that sound is good at covering the fireworks. Also the silkie chicks have stayed put in their nest box.

Roo is saying is a good place to lay eggs. He's being a good boy and finding (and suggesting) "good" places to nest. Sound sort of half way between the tidbit and the purr.
Yeah... that's not what he sounded like. He didn't make any noises in the box, but acted like there was something serious going on when I ran him out.

There may not be candling tonight. It's pouring down rain and nature's fireworks are in full force. Beautiful, but I don't feel like getting soaked going to the henhouse.

We're looking into alternatives to out current coop. This heatwave kinda freaked me out. Somehow...though he reminds me they're MY chickens, I think hubby is more concerned than me. Big, bad, former Marine, prison guard for 30 years and now security guard, has a soft spot fit these chickens I think. :love

I personally think we should try insulating the roof and south wall of the shed, changing the plywood for wire, and change the coop bedding. He thinks we need a new coop.

Anyhow, we've looked at several tonight to get ideas and are toying with having a building we own moved. We have hunting property we need to sell, that has a 12x24 portable building on it. We could divide it in half and have a large coop and a large storage room as well - IF we can get it moved that far at a reasonable cost. That or buying/building something.

Anyway...we have things to decide.

Happy Canada Day to all the Canadians among us!

Good that you recognize it. :) Trust me, it gets frustrating being asked for the same thing over and over and over. Especially if you've said no already. And if dad doesn't have any interest in the birds...well... when my son was your age his thing was gaming. It was all he talked about. I had no interest in that and it got so old and tiring having no other conversations. Try to find some middle ground. Of course you should talk about your interests...but maybe ask him about his too every once in a while? I would have loved my son to show some interest in my day occasionally. That's the end of the advice from an old lady. :)

So Eenie is down to 5 eggs. Husband found one over by the door to the coop when he opened it this morning! No idea how it got 5 feet fron the nest! I candled it and it had developed a little...but of course wasn't now. :( Wonder what we'll find candling the others...

10:30 a.m. and only 80 degrees! Nice change of pace. We shouldn't get over 95 in the next 10 days. Now if it would only rain.

I'm sure something in this post requires tax.

So glad the weather has moderated. :thumbsup

Last night's horse show ended up being called off. There will be one tonight though weather permitting. I was down there sitting at the picnic tables talking to the lady who runs it while Rosie rode Russ with a few friends. Up walks a small group of kids who ask her what are they going to do with the chicken. What chicken, where is a chicken? One of them is carrying a brown hen, and it is dark mind you. They had brought her to have a chicken chase at intermission and did not know what to do with her. I instantly ask to hold said hen, Betty is telling them she did not really like to do chicken chases because she feels bad for the poor hen and would not want to see her hurt. The kids say they were giving the chicken to whoever caught it, at this point I have the hen securely in my arms and maddie is beside me. I look at Maddie who immediately understands. I set the sleeping hen on the ground and Maddie snatches her up. Betty was like, well, she caught her can she have her? Yes folks, I came home with a hen I did not need. She is in isolation. When I put her up last night she was so thirsty and was starving this morning. I do NOT need another hen, I don't. I also do not agree with chicken chases either. Maddie is going to try to talk her sister into bringing her up to her house and add to her flock. If not, she will either stay with me and be Maddie's or I will find her a home. Betty also told the kids parents to not let them bring another chicken tonight for a chase. I hope they listen, or I may end up with 2 new hens.

Maddie and Rosie already named her Brownie.
My hen Brownie on my left shoulder. I love clever names like that. 😉

Just finished mowing the grass, took it right down to the dirt (die, suckers, die) hopefully the heat will dry it all up so I don't have to mow it for a few more weeks!

I would love to go for a nice refreshing swim now! Maybe soak in the horse trough???

Off topic tax

Curly has ditched the kids and is on her own again
