I wasn't worried about rats as haven't seen any around. Pack rats are another story, but they're not in the co op.
🤔Hmmmm🤔, well, I seem to have a problem with both kind of rats! (hence the 2 plastic dog crates and that ?gerbil/hamster cage - all either free or $5 :lau)
I am sorry I have been sporadic and missing in action at times. Not going to lie, it will probably continue for a bit. I am dealing with some personal issues that does not pertain to Grandma and it is getting to me. Grandma is not helping either I might add.
:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugsFor your personal concern and for you dealing with Grandma. I'm thinking of you!

A rabbit in peril...?

My friend has a doe (female rabbit) named Charity. She recently had a litter of eleven kits.

Now just what is the problem here?

You see the healthiest litters are of 3 or 4 kits. Now with eleven there will be always someone missing out on it. I received a call from my friend saying that hey, I have a rabbit that's dying of malnutrition, another two have already died of that kind of thing. I agreed to take the rabbit. He's sitting in a box next to me, wrapped in some spare rabbit fur and I'm feeding him rabbit formula (goatmilk + whipping cream) and he seems to be perking up.

phew. But if any of you know what else to do to help this young kit, please pipe up.
Well now I am a rabbit expert ❤️😊

Raised and showed Rex and Netherland Dwarf for years as a youth 😊

Fact; does only nurse their babies once a day - true fact!

Also I have had litters of 12 no problem - split the litter in half and feed the one group in the
morning and they second group in the afternoon, roughly 12 hrs apart.

How old is this kit? If it doesn’t have its eyes open and out and about eating then it’s chances are not good,

So what I would do is have two nesting boxes and put half the litter in one box and the rest in the second box. Morning and evening bring the nest boxes out for momma to nurse. Once their eyes open and they start bopping out of the box nibbling on stuff you can put them all back together to finish growing up 😊

EDIT: To clarify - bring one of the nestboxes out on the morning and the other in the evening so each group is fed once a day.

Awwwww

Alex and Bob know what I like ❤️ BR and wattles

Why don’t I have any BR you ask? Well good question! I guess because I never had the opportunity to get any.

But not to worry folks - a BR is in my future it seems. My nieces hens will be here soon enough I am told - her name is Larry 😊

Well and why not, seems I have had boys called Roxanne and Martina, so why not a hen named Larry 😁

Anyhoo back to the chickens. Corona ended up with 9 out of the 11 eggs hatching and they are a week old today. Here are a few pictures of them. She has 1 dark blue, 1 brown and 7 black chicks.

Raven and her crew. I know for sure the yellow chick she hatched out is a male no questions. Iffy on her other 2 natural hatched chicks. The speckled sussex's are still NOT speckled and are slow to sprout tails and feather out in general. Owly is still Owly and my snuggle buddy and favorite. Owly is also still hopefully a female.

Aurora Substitutes

There is a cherry tomato plant which e have been growing in a pot which is making the tiniest cherry tomatoes. We have put it out by the chicken coop so the girls can enjoy the tiny tomatoes.

Today something happened which I am so glad I recorded.

Hattie reaches up high to pick a red tomato. She drops it on the ground to break it up and Aurora comes sprinting across the yard, takes the red tomato and eats it. She then reaches up, picks a green tomato and drops it on the ground as if to say, "Hattie you can eat green tomatoes. The red ones are mine." Aurora then walks away leaving the green tomato on the ground.
