The coyotes were really active yesterday morning (around 5am), howling and carrying on - one of the pack must have come back with a catch. I could hear them when I was walking to the barn, it's getting dark now at 5am here, gets light around 5:30am.

As such I don't let the chickens wander far from the barn when I am doing chores - too many foxes, and coyotes running around until about 10am. It's a bit safer then but I don't leave them unattended at all.
I've got LOTS of coyotes here. But they don't dare come near the lady with the shotty!
 
WOW ! Those are some outstanding foot feathers - are you sure she doesn't have Ptarmigan in her? :)

I believe that she is a Cuckoo Marans cross to make a sex linked chick. She is the bravest teen and very quick at dodging which is important since she is so sassy with the adults!
