Let's see how smart, or stubborn the hooligans are tonight. Tonight will make day 3 of roosting in the coop. Will they go to the coop on their own or will I have to carry them 2 by 2 off the porch and put them in the coop. I hate doing that and feel terrible. Instead of settling nicely on the roost they insist on trying to climb up my arms and roost on me.

Awwwww they are so cute, but I understand your dilemma; I find that it takes a week to get them to start going on their own to a roost; the babies likely got spooked by Rico and ran out of the Hen House.

Meanwhile I have an escapee - Lulu is loose in the barn (or more likley I forgot to put up the stall guard), she can’t go anywhere so she is ok for a bit. Truly isn’t happy…

Rico has left the Hen House and the babies have returned and are looking for a roosting spot.

You're seeing the tail feathers. At 16 weeks, she'd have the pointy hackle and saddle feathers. Still a pullet @RoyalChick relax.

I went out to get some pictures of the speckled suspects as alex calls them. They did not make it easy as they wanted to hide in the tall grass and weeds next door. Smart on their part as they no longer have their mother watching over them. Difficult for me as I need body shots of them.

9 weeks old now. Those speckled suspects had better be pullets.

Thank you for these. This gives me some hope. Spot and Dot are not boys now....unless they crow.

The speckled suspects grow the combs a mite wonky for straight combs. They color early (like rose combs) and just grow differently.
