Ya I hear ya. I saw Curly off the nest earlier, not sure about Henny, but Whiskers is stubborn and won’t leave the nest. I am betting it’s the darn cockerels- when I get back home they are all going - they are causing too much stress with my mum and the hens.
I have tried and tried to tell her No
More this year but she still remains dedicated and insists its her responsibility since she is a miracle level egg sitter seeing as how she hatched chicks when there wasn't even a Rooster in sight!

I am really hoping the decree helps.

Humans can Really be Awful
This is horrid research. It is all governed by what is the cheapest way to get an egg. Because we are now using corn to power our cars in an effort to save money on more expensive feed they are now going to essentially starve laying hens. They will live horrible lives in cages and slowly state l starve to death while giving us cheap eggs. They will well and truly be burnt out by 18 months with almost no hope of surviving. 😥

Humans can be quite barbaric. Especially so to beings we believe to be beneath us. Not that we have been super kind to other humans.

It's amazing they have proven that malnourished hens will sacrifice their own bodies to lay eggs. Malnourished human women will do the same when pregnant.

SMH, Let’s take already horrendous living conditions for chickens and make it even worse to get a few more dollars. This makes me so sad and angry.

I agree with the previous post, I think the best thing we can do is share our joy and love of chickens with others and hope BY chickens continues to spread so no one needs to buy eggs from the store anymore. I also agree with trying to change local laws to allow BY chickens in more places.
Mornin! I had to shut the girlies in the coop overnight because it got cold here. Let them back out while my coffee was brewing and the lecture they gave me! You would think little chicky birds would have some manners!
Here they are a couple days ago being adorable.

Cancer update: Margins are clean and no sign of melanoma in either of the lymph nodes they biopsied!

No further surgery should be necessary. I have an appointment on the 12th to go over the next steps with my doctor. I suspect they will do a brain and full body MRI to ensure it’s nowhere else and then I will have to go get skin checks every three months.

Buff Buck took a kick too the face! SoHerry was chasing one of the hens and she was clearly unhappy so Buff Buck came over and full force jumped into Herry causing him to fall over! After he got up he partially missed Buff Buck only getting his waddles and lower beak.it is a bit bloody but it isn't too bad. Here is a photo.

No, No, No!!

You need to keep Mr. P and at least 1 more. Poor Mr. P can't handle that many ladies on his own. He will be run ragged just like us worn out Hoomans (but because we have too many broodies/babies)
:goodpost: @Ponypoor running Mr P ragged will actually SHORTEN his life. He needs at least 1 helper. He really should have at least 2, but that could wait a year (spend out the juniors a bit).
I will think about it, when I get home I will see who is behaving and who isn’t.
