General observations I have noticed in the last couple days with Owly and her crew. They are now 4 1/2 months old and voices have completely changed. None of them have made a chick noise in over a week, they all sound like adults. The suspects and Owly actually sound like an adult hen. Owly and the rocks are starting to get color to their faces although combs and wattles are still pretty much non-existent. They turn 5 months old on the 3rd of November so I will have to watch them closely. I really am not expecting them to lay until spring although technically they could be ready by the middle of November. The girls are running with the older hens now more frequently. This is all signs I have saw in the past a few weeks before that first egg came. It is very possible they are gearing up for a quick rush to maturity. I can see that happening with Spooky. She comes from my own breeding so in theory she should be ready to lay at 5 1/2 months old. I do not know enough about speckled sussex, barred rocks or a EEs to predict what they might do but the early signs are there as a possibility. I still think the speckled sussex will hold off, they appear the least mature and smaller. I will get new pictures of everyone this weekend. Most likely not today as it is pouring rain.
