It's colder than that here today. The chickens are not impressed! I have to get out there to collect eggs before they freeze.

I saw on Theweathernetwork it was evil cold out your way - keep it please!

I put my Sweeter Heater up for the moulting ladies, and Red Hen - no one is using it so guess they are not feeling the chill yet, Blanche was hogging it a bit yesterday; oh just checked and Misty the Bald Lady is hanging out under there. I wanna hang out under it haha! Damp and chilly here.

It's upper 80s in Somerville. Thankfully I don't come up here often.

It's funny because this would count as a lovely winter day in mid-winter, but it is the first chilly day. We have snow on the ground and no temperatures above freezing in the long range forecast. Winter is here.

How are your chicks doing with the snow? I can't wait till mine see snow for the first time always funny to see their first reaction!

The Hawks Are Back

In the last 2 days I have had hawks swoop uncomfortably close to my head. Yippie!

Haven't seen any hawks - yet! But lots of Turkey Vultures heading south. And lots of Grackles and Starlings freaking out my chooks, they fly in huge flocks moving from tree to tree, the chickens don't know what to think of the noise and commotion.

Branch needs his own hen close to his size. I had hoped that would be Chiquita. Chiquita liked Branch but truth be told, she had a thing for Bubba. This is another reason I am leaning heavily toward no unsupervised free ranging for Poppet. I just do not see her getting to be as big as Chiquita was and she was small. If she developed a thing for Bubba as well that could be diastrous. Bubba was gentle with Chiquita but boy is he big, too big for wee Poppet.
