I keep trying that but they keep running around! I do a head count all the time due to my paranoid nature! I just know they are escaping or up to no good! Hahaha!
I wait until they're roosting to close the coop and do head count. Summer is a bit more of a challenge, but they head in on their own when the sun is sinking behind the mountains. They top up their crops, have a drink, and find a roosting spot where they preen their feathers. That's a good time to do head count. The teens come in more slowly and with more energy, but are hanging out just outside by then too.

While looking for a photo for one of the contests I realized my favorite all time picture I have taken was took exactly 11 years ago today.

That is my old girl Ginnie with Gracie 4 days after we got her. Time has flown bye. Gracie should not be 11 and Ginnie should not be gone 9 years. I also realized for 21 years I have a golden retriever in my life.
That is an all-time great photo! 😍 😍 😍 🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍

Marty

She has me very worried, she has been on and off laying soft eggs; yesterday and today she laid soft eggs.

I feel like I should be giving her calcium, but what dose for a wee silkie? I have those small calcium carbonate 650mg pills. Is that too much for her?
I think that would be for a "standard size" hen. So if that's about 5 pounds, half, if she's half that? I haven't found much in searching how much per day for how much weight.

Hey CB, maybe they could bump up the voltage on that wire fencing, let’s say to 10,000 volts? Surely the dogs will get the message with that wire.
I think 10,000 volts is standard for deterring large animals, cattle, bear. My fence goes to 8k. The jump you get though depends on the ground, either through the soil and back (and that depends on soil dampness) or with a ground wire in the fence...
