I have a question for you all. Have any of you had a hen actively stalk you, growling like only a chicken can head down looking like a rooster ready to attack? I have never even had a cockerel full in his idiot phase act this aggressive. One of the speckled sussex's is doing this. Fairly certain it is Dottie. This behavior has been building up for about a month now. It started as simply following me around. Then the growling while following. Now she is got her head down and hackles slightly flared. This IS a pullet I am sure of it. I grabbed her yesterday and inspected her hackle and sickle feathers. Rounded pullet/hen shaped. I asked and I am the only one she is doing this too. I am very very close to treating her like a do a stupid teenage roo and snatch her up and start carrying her around while I do chores.
Yes actually, I do have one that does this who is also a pullet. She stalks the kids and me sometimes and bit my son. She even stalks the cats. It’s Avalon and she has started pinking up finally. She is by far the most aggressive chicken I have had barring Oreo of course. She shows no aggression to other chickens just humans and the cats.
I have chalked it up to hormones. She is currently acting very much like I would expect a rooster to around this age. It’s weird though. I do hope she stops once she starts laying and her hormones settle back down. It is really unexpected.

Very interesting theory. They are coming up to laying age. One of the rocks laid for the first time yesterday. I will wait and see if her attitude changes once she begins laying.

Will a cat sized dog work for caturday?

He looks mean but he was just snorting for a snacky

In the bantams area, there is 2 breeding pairs of serams, then there are 2 cochin hens 1 Brahma bantam hen with a cochin roo. They hatched together. The other one is white Brahma with 6 hens and 4 roos. I alternate the hens. The Japanese were removed 3 times before someone reached out and asked if I had room
I started looking for girls right away. They are all relatively close in age. And they have been fence buddies since.
I can take the Brahma hen and see if they vibe well. I just now got fertile eggs from them. I also have a silke roo with 2 hen and 2 chick's hatching now. The other 2 flocks are 1 flock of backyard mix and 1 flock of big chickens. Brahma jersey giamlgiants orpingtons etc
I t hink the Bantam Brahma will be good with him. They are certainly bigger, but if the bantam variety is anything like the standard version of Brahma, they are pretty easy going and would probably make a good match - and he definitely needs a 'friend'. I agree with the idea @RebeccaBoyd said - once you can hatch some of your own pullets - put some in with him once they are 3-4 months (and can 'hold their own' against a roo) with him.
