Still so very rainy. Here are the head hens getting first dibs at the morning mash. I’ve been mixing 20% & 18% protein feeds to get everyone past their molts.

Wattles of the day are a BFTP from this weekend. I can see that Fez (the cuckoo marans) still had red wattles in this photo, but between then and now has gone pale and started dropping fistfuls of feathers. She must be feeling low energy, because she has stopped harassing the pullets.

I wonder when Becky will molt… I see a single pin feather in her neck. Maybe she’s taking it reeeeeally slowly. Plenty of pullet-pecking energy in her.

I would also like to know what is up with Branch. He had to have gotten up on the wrong side of the roost this morning. He did not want me to touch him today. When I was bringing a treat for Poppet he was in front of the coop door so I ushered him in without handling him. He was in there for 5 minutes sharing the cornbread treat when for no reason that I could find Poppet chest bumped him. That was a first. He responded by picking a fight with her. I immediately separated them and then got to worrying oh crap, is Poppet a boy. A hour later I am doing dishes and watching the chickens in the back yard when I spot him pick a fight with Holly. Seeing that fight I am no longer worried about Poppet possibly being a rooster, but that Branch simply has a feather up his butt today. If his behavior is slightly off tomorrow whether he likes it or not he is coming in for a close inspection. I know my rooster, today he was definitely not the rooster I know. He can have one bad day, everyone is allowed to be grumpy sometimes. I am wondering if underneath his fuzz he is a mass of pin feathers still.
I'm so glad you noticed. I hope he's his usual self tomorrow. :hugs :hugs

My husband has already said "heck no"
But...this lil maybe roo my cousin has may need a home if he doesn't take to being his dad's subordinate when he's bigger.

Such a cutie patootie
I definitely can't have any more chickens with the setup I have though.
He is seriously cute. I hope he learns and accepts his place.
