Reminds me of an Appaloosa, Lulu was born dark bay with a lacy white blanket on her rump, and black mane and tail.Yes. I have never seen such a dramatic change in a single molt. It is stunning. She is going to be something special when she is done.
I never considered that they could change so much. It's just shocking to me,.Reminds me of an Appaloosa, Lulu was born dark bay with a lacy white blanket on her rump, and black mane and tail.
When she did her yearling (turned 1 yr old) Spring moult of her winter hair she turned white! And lost all her dark mane and tail which are also white!
The only way I know she is a Bay (her base colour) is that her legs are dark - they are a caramel colour now
Even Blanche changed colour again this year, when she moulted all her feathers with the white tips came back in dark! She lost her white speckles! I find chicken colours astonishing in their variety.
Blanche is the only one who changes her spots hereI never considered that they could change so much. It's just shocking to me,.
That would be a great hobby.Blanche is the only one who changes her spots here
But Buttercup getting her dark splash feathers when she was young was a shocker to meshe gets more dark ones whenever she moults. It must be a splash thing, like Lady F getting her spots for her colour pattern.
One day I will delve into the genetics behind these fancy colours.
Once they are all in, yes, and it's settled down a lot lately too, I'm pleased. They all seem to get along at night don’t they![]()
Wow that’s not usual is it! Normally they give a good peck and that’s that!Once they are all in, yes, and it's settled down a lot lately too, I'm pleased.
But Hazel surprised me yesterday. She's usually very hands-off, and all it takes is a lookor a slight body lean for her to enforce the rules. I didn't see what happened but Popcorn screamed, and suddenly she zoomed by me with Hazel in hot pursuit. Another yell when she paused, because Hazel wasn't stopping. She chased her all the way into the end of the run under the coop. She was mad!
