Why she wants to sit up there on the roosting ledge I don’t know, but I put feed up there for her.

Poor Mr P

Tonight I got home and freaked out when I saw Mr P - seems one of his feathers was again picked and bled like crazy, and I bet the girls where harassing him, I found him hiding his head in the corner on the roosting ledge in the hen house 😢

I’ll have to give him a bath tomorrow. It looks worse than it is.

That looks horrible!

Mum has company here it’s Newfoundland night here. My mother and her childhood friends are playing the guitars and singing - she just told her friend that she wants him to play ‘How great tho art’ when she dies - she will likely out live Clarence 😁

Getting all the Newfoundland songs, and now Bobby Magee…. 😁 wish I hadn’t taken my leg meds so I could participate but I am a zombie partially now. Jeez can’t even have any of her raisin brandy ! Should have not taken the damn meds!

Tomorrow night more Newfoundland night, music good and raisin brandy 😁 my BIL birthday so his side of the family will also be here - my sister married a fellow Newfoundlander.

Hahahaha gawd mum is mangling ‘I like that old time rock and roll’ :gig

Shouldn’t have taken my meds darn! Seems she has had a bit too much of her raisin brandy. It’s her great grandma’s recipe- she brews it up in a bucket in her bedroom - 40 days of brewing hahahaha. We call it home brew.

Uhoh now she has the button accordion broke out. Got some jigs going there! Clarence is an awesome guitar player - him and my dad were best friends, his death hit him hard.

Makes me extreme sad to hear this music with out my dad here 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 but my
Mum is happy and that’s all that counts.

Ok folks have a good night - I need a Kleenex and listen to some music.

Something to leave you with. This is a favourite song of mine I love singing. This group is from my parent home town

You folks post soooo fast! Skip a day and I can't even got all the notifications!

We put Meanie in with the others yesterday and she promptly sequstered herself away from the others. I'm afraid that by getting rid of Manny, i may have made an error.

I wish i could. But i don't really know who it is. I suspect Tres...but it could be another. The only one free from suspision is Sheba. She's the only one Meanie tolerates.

Having problems quoting today. @ManueB I know you said something about hens not switching roos... that's a thought I hadn't had.

Without a doubt I changed the coop dynamics big time. Before, it was always Manny and Meanie. Side by side. Once we locked him out in the run and she was just traumatized I swear...both of them just made such a ruckus...just calling that "alert" over and over. Sheba was in the picture too...but one down the ladder. Then there was Eenie at the bottom.

After Manny left, we still had Meanie at the top, with Sheba by her side. They had the top roost, ate first, and generally ruled. Tres ran from them, as did Eenie and Goldie. But now it's pretty clear that Tres, Eenie and Goldie are a trio and Sheba is usually with them. And Meanie...well here she is...again.View attachment 3706291View attachment 3706292
Poor thing.

I'm not sure what to do to figure it out. I can close the others out, coax her out with some treats, then let the others back in and see what happens... but short of that, I can't be there all the time. I have a job!

I think I'll try to get a couple trail cams that do video set up. Maybe I can see something.

It just never occurred to me I'd do damage to one of my girls by getting rid of the too-aggressive rooster. I haven't seen Tres attempting to mate. He's seems so big, I'm a tad worried about my little hens. Though maybe he's just fluffy. View attachment 3706295View attachment 3706296
I really don't want him hurting any of them. They're just getting their feathers back they lost to Manny's attentions. I never wanted a rooster in the first place... maybe I was right.

Now of course I worry about upsetting things more by getting rid of Tres.
Flock dynamics are very complex. The good news is that things will eventually find a new equilibrium. Roosters perish all the time protecting the tribe. Chickens know how to deal with these situations. They will all adjust eventually. As long as she is not being hurt physically things will work their way to a new normal. I would just make sure they aren't ganging up on her and hurting her.
