Well at least the right side eye is less blocked.

You gave him a MULLET!!!! 🤦‍♂️

How did you get him to crow on cue?! 🎶

No, she's actually growing her feathers back at this point.

It's been a revealing few days. I watched as best I could, and it's pretty clearly Tres she's avoiding. She will come out of hiding to scratch and eat with any of the ladies, but that big boy comes in and she pretty much immediately dives for cover. I actually never even saw him try mating. He just comes near and she's in a panic.

That doesn't mean there isn't quite a power struggle going on. Tonight I found Goldie attempting to insert herself between Meanie and Sheba on the top roost. Meanie was less than pleased. Sheba, as always, was Switzerland.

I actually did move Goldie down to the lower roost. I probably should have let them just deal with it, but who knows what she did when I left?

Perhaps the young princess has thoughts of becoming queen?
I had a bit of a chuckle as I have been there before. I know how distressing it is to see them squabbling and carrying on.

At the end of the day though they need to work it out, not sure why she is worried about Tres, but if you put some obstacles in the coop amd run that should provide some distraction and places to get out of sight.

Tonight's Roosting

I can't figure them out. All in the Main Coop. I can't remember Glynda and Lady Featherington ever using that roost before.

They spent the whole day together in the coop, peacefully, so maybe that helped to bring this about.
And we all know next week it will different again. Never boring with chickens!

I fear my lucky streak of avoiding the crud that has been going around the house is running out. Itchy scratchy throat, sneezing, start of sinus pressure and occasional coughing fits this afternoon. Broke over to try to get ahead of it and fixed a alkaseltzer cold and flu drink.
Oh no. I hope it is not serious. 😷 :hugs :hugs :hugs

They might rebel! :lau

I'll use the store eggs for things like grownies, where the eggs are for binding and protein, and don't add to the taste.

A couple of years ago I froze eggs from my Princesses - they work fine in baked goods, and of course as chicken treats.
You have to beat the yolk and white together and add either a pinch of salt or a pinch of sugar. In theory you choose sugar or salt depending on planned usage - but I couldn't tell the difference in baked goods!
So...truthfully, I know this is sacrilege, but I totally can't taste the difference between store bought eggs and eggs from my hens. 🫢

Maybe because mine don't free-range, but when we buy them, we get the cheap store brand.

I have some frozen too, since my husband brought home eggs from work once this summer. They were at the end of their "good" period... in fact i ended up tossing some. Im looking forward to trying them.

We still have the little "tables" from when the chicks needed to hide (ironically) and they're tall enough for her to go under. But she likes to squeeze in that space under the feeder...who knows?

Your gang looks very content there 😊

I heard there was high winds and rain down south, and flooding 😟 sure hope that you aren’t getting any flooding.
The area under the coop flooded on Sunday. It looks like the creeks and rivers are going to stay in their banks. So far so good here. Thanks for asking.
