I have never seen mine eat ants. I thought maybe chickens did not like them.Yesterday, we split a bunch of wood. One log was full of ants. They were very sluggish, as it was around 43 degrees. The chickens got a couple of ant logs, and they went to town on them.
I just love that!
Gorgeous, just gorgeous!Tassels laid beautiful dark khaki colored eggs for enough days for me to fall in love with the color. Then she stopped and is content with being big and fluffy and changing the color of her gowns.
Just look at those feathers!

I sure you it breaks soon for you. I had the flu like that a few years back. I still can't drink coffee. I'm a tea man now. I sure hope that doesn't happen to you.Good morning everyone. This crud that tested negative for everything kicked my butt the last 2 days. Yesterday was the worst. Body aches, freezing, fever vomiting and just in general ready to die feeling. I may have tested negative, but I swear this is the flu. My brother brought home some theraflu yesterday for me, I was finally able to drink some and keep it down last night. This morning I broke over and have drank some hot tea as coffee even still smells terrible. I hate tea, but I want something hot and I need caffeine or else the headache will take me out. Still have not attempted to eat anything, 36 hours without a bite to eat and I know my stomach is not ready. Thankfully my sugar has not dropped, instead I have been dealing with highs. Currently 224, I cannot get it under 200 and it spiked to 330 at one point yesterday. Been testing for ketones and negative so that is good. If I start producing them well, er trip for me. I have not been able to go outside to take care of the chickens since I put everyone up Thursday night, Rosie has been doing that for me. She assures me everyone is well. I hope to feel up to taking a stroll around outside to see for myself at some point today, maybe.
But not the hippopotamus...
She already moulted. Her feathers have almost all grown back in now.Are you sure she isn’t moulting? She sure sounds like my hens when they moult, she might now have one of those full blown lose all ones feathers moult, she could be going through a less obvious moult. But she would still be feeling poorly.
As for the ‘Roland’ I have the feeling you would feel more at ease if you rehomed him, in which case this may be the best solution for all of you involved.
It’s been very wet here also, and very mild. But I will take it! I do not like the freezing weather, and can do without snow.
My free loaders are many, I give up on them laying. And Dorothy who is only young has never been a prolific layer, she is like her mum Penelope who was never very prolific.Remember now, blue or green is not a given with Owly or all EEs in general. There is a chance, slight one but still a chance of a pink or brown egg. Easter Eggers are in truth mutts so egg color can be hit or miss. If she were a true Ameraucana then I would for sure get a blue egg. Ask @BY Bob , he hoped Queen Aurora would lay blue, but instead she knew better and lays pink. I also want my dark eggs back, my Marans are on strike, every single one of them. The only darkish egg I am getting is from good old faithful Blueberry. Goose is laying as well, but hers are a nice tan color. White now, I am swimming in white eggs. Sigh, the horror of it all. That is why I am open for throwing all my color preferences out the window and just add a blue egg to the mix. I've read the riot act to Holly, Corona, Baby, Lilly and Bunny. 1 month girls, one more month of free-loading.
