I'm hoping everyone is having a good holiday.

I'm afraid I've come down with something nasty, I think it's man flu.

I’m sure you’re actually sick, and I’m so very sorry and hope you get better soon: but the thought of catching the “man flu” had me guffawing, that’s hysterical

Twofer Tuesday: Dottie and Fez asking for mealworms, with Perry in the background.

Fascinating little free ranging time for the chickens. I let everyone out, including Perry (it was her first time free with the flock), and did a lot of observing. After mingling with them for just a couple of minutes, during which Dottie flared (just asking for more personal space, it did not escalate):

Perry found her way back to the run for a long luxurious dust bath (in the sand box that she is fenced off from normally) while the others went to be productive (lotsa rain means lotsa worms).

When the flock started to show signs of being ready to return, I let just Dottie (boss lady, even tempered, kind) and Fez (last year’s bully, has scalped a chick) back into the run to see how they went with Perry. Wow Perry could not believe her luck, the older chickens were very mellow with her! So I then let Quincy in as well and that was very chill as well. Look at Perry (and her short legs) studying her new family as they parade past her.

It’s interesting to me that Becky and Fez (previous bullies) don’t care to beat up on Perry themselves like they would have last year: they have passed the baton on to Whiskey and Albert! It seems that making sure Perry has harassers is more important than getting it done themselves.

Perry is such a beautiful little girl - I'm very happy the free-range tie went well. She deserves a flock and a BFF!

Hi everyone, and Merry Christmas!

Sorry I haven’t been on in so long. I had already been having trouble keeping up with the thread and then my life pretty much imploded right before Thanksgiving. He is doing ok, but my husband had a heart attack and then a quadruple bypass. This came at a horrible time, as he will soon lose his disability payments for his shoulder surgery, and since his company laid him off in July when his 12 weeks FMLA were used up, he can’t file a new claim for the cardiac issues. It will probabaly be at least theee months before he can even think about looking for work, and we don’t know yet if he will ever be able to work in his industry again due to the health issues. We are thinking about applying for social security disability, but can’t afford an attorney and don’t know how to find a good one that works on a contingency basis.

On top of all that, between his heart attack and his surgery we found out our main property had been robbed and basically trashed (we were at our other property for deer season and the holidays). They stole all four Harley’s, his great grandfather’s 1965 Chevy pickup that he had bought brand new and had been in the family ever since, and pretty much cleaned out or destroyed everything else. So I have also been having to deal with detectives and insurance companies.

Other than that I guess we have been doing ok, lol. My newest chicks are almost full grown. My husband calls them the flutter-bots because of the way they run out and flutter around when we open the coop.

I am so sorry to hear all the horrible things that came your way. I know this doesn't really help - but your girls are just beautiful Maybe, time permitting, you can spend a few minutes outside each day just watching them. It can really help you decompress and be ready for the next wave of paper and responsibilities onslaught!

I hope your pick-up and bikes get returned. I am quite sure that they - especially the pick-up - have very sentimental meanings for you and your hubby.

The one bright spot in all of this is that hubby pulled through with the heart attach and bypass surgery. My brother-in-law needed heart surgery (for a failed valve) and he was out almost 4 months. I don't know about hubby's work, but his was a fairly physical job - driving truck and dropping off bundles of newspapers - he no longer does that. Hopefully hubby will fully recover, eat better and generally be healthier - and that he can go on disability. You should be able to do the initial paper work without a lawyer - and only need one if he gets turned down. I can't imagine him being turned down given his medical history, butwhat do I know??

I've tried this... sort of. I kept running the solution down the back of my throat. Yuck. I got the "surgilator" or whatever it was called. Haven't stuck with it enough to say it helps.

I have suggested this to hubby for his sinus issues. HARD NO from him.

I feel like I should set a good example.

You need to be extremely careful and use sterile water if you use the neti pot or other irrigation for your nasal and sinus issues.

There have been incidents of amoeba infections in the brain from using non sterile water.

Owly sounds grown up and on a few occasions has joined other girls into singing the egg song. She is closer then Poppet for sure. Poppet, she is a total spazzy teenager with a almost adult voice. Neither have squatted. Branch also has zero romantic idea's about Poppet as well. He is back to running and chasing the ladies now, so I am watching for that clue.

I sympathize Marie as I have work flu. It felt good to tell everyone to piss off and I'm taking my vacation. A boss' wrong decisions aren't my responsibility to correct. I said a few other things too but I won't curse on Bob's thread.
