I got my Murray McMurray catalog in the mail yesterday. I'm so glad I am still ga-ga in love with my 5 pullets! I don't have any room for more chickens right now. Not even if Widget goes broody and wants to raise some chicks. Not even if I fall in love with another breed.

So... I will page through the catalog and sigh wistfully.

There’s always room for a few more!

Technically... maybe. If following the 4/10 sf/bird (coop/run) rule of thumb, I have room for 4 more. But this group is getting along well now, and I don't want to upset the balance.

I think we will be awash in eggs this summer, and I'm looking forward to harvesting some excellent run compost this spring.

Technically... maybe. If following the 4/10 sf/bird (coop/run) rule of thumb, I have room for 4 more. But this group is getting along well now, and I don't want to upset the balance.

I am awash in eggs - 15 yesterday! My older girls finished moulting and started back laying about every other day. Heaven help me if Penelope Sophia and Blanche start up! And let’s not forget Marty Henny and Curly

Might need another fridge to store eggs in!

I wish I'd gotten a head of broccoli at the store. Then I'd make a frittata with the extra eggs I have right now. All 5 pullets are laying. One of my 3.5 yo hens is laying, and another looks like she could start up any day. I have one of the 2.5 yo hens sitting in the nestbox as I type this, first time for her since her molt.

There are 2 other hens who are a ways away from laying again. That's 10 (!) birds a-laying, and rooster at Chez Sally. (You need to work with the rhythm to make it fit that annoying song that we won't hear for another 11 months, yay.)
