Grandma update:

Hospice is making their first visit today at 10:30. I am surprised they are coming. We hit brick walls with home health. Nagging her dr since September and the office never managed to set it up. When he decided 2 weeks ago on her last telehealth appointment that it was time for hospice honestly I thought yeah right. Well, they just called asking for directions and are on their way. Realistically there is not much they can do, or anybody for that matter. I have 2 major concerns that they can hopefully address and give advice on. One is her legs and the swelling issues, the other is the spot that we have been battling for 5 months that is threatening to be the start of a bed sore. It will not completely heal, but is not getting worse and due to it's location no matter what position we put her in she cannot be gotten off of it 100%.
I'm glad you are going to get some help. :hugs :hugs

Maybe Hospice can help with getting Home Health aides too, unless in your state they are combined which would be great. The practical aspect of what they both do can be invaluable. Bear in mind maybe what you are doing for Grandma's potential bed sore is the best that can be done. You certainly are preventing further damage, which is a positive.

Hospice is honestly a great tool. Experienced it a few times with relatives and they appreciated the extra care.

Appreciating Samara actually coming over and wanting attention, even if it's because she thinks I'm the rooster. Morinth came over for some pets this morning too, maybe she'll be next?

Kasumi is a brat and has taken up biting. I poke her with my finger every time to hopefully remind her that she isn't the boss, but we'll see.
They ate almost all of the eggshells yesterday. I just hard boiled 9 today, I'll let the shells dry a bit before I crush them and bring them out. Guess I need to ask around for empty eggshells!

I really need to visit for a few days. I will sign a waiver before heading to the barn. First thing on the agenda is scoop up Mr. P in one arm for a hug. Fully prepared and waiting for the wee little black lass to come rampaging to scoop her up in the other arm. Double snuggles. Living with Momma Hen, I aint afraid of no hen.
Sure come on up! We have lots of room, I’ll take you riding ( oh better wait for Spring then I only ride when it’s over 70F hahaha!), if you can catch him you can snuggle him.

I just sent my request to my friend to borrow her Roo next month (my mum is going to clobber me you do know that right???).

Rebecca, if you can make a cushion with a hole in it for that location it will help remove pressure from that spot. Or a large piece of foam.

What I have also done in the past is to use two large pillows placed together, and place my patients with the gully made by the pillows where the pressure spot is.

Do you think your Gran would use a memory foam or egg-crate foam? Or better still ask hospice for an air mattress they are ridiculously expensive but they work well for patients that don’t tolerate pilllows or ‘donuts’.

Hugs to you and your Gran

Marty hanging with Henny and the chicks, I might give her a couple chicks this year if she goes broody again (heaven help me!)
