Um yep, nope you keep it 😁

It’s cold here, -11C at the moment, and Lulus water bucket had ice in it when I got home. So tomorrow morning I will just empty the water buckets and leave them till I get home to fill up.

Also the chicken’s water containers were iced up, so the plug in one will be brought out tomorrow morning.

Winter just means work work work. Summer has its own work (mowing the grass, etc), but it’s much easier to work outside when it’s light and not freezing!

Yes, you Canadians should feel terrible and take you ick back. We have another storm moving in, should hit tomorrow evening. I do not like this one, predicting wet snow instead of dry snow. Wet snow worries me, bigger chance for a power outage. We have been fortunate that thankfully we have never had a power outage. Right now a power outage is terrifying. Keeping warm is not the concern, thanks to grandma's love of quilting have a surplus of quilts and blankets to keep warm. Grandma is on oxygen now. She has been since she was released from the hospital back in September. If power goes out we have 2 big portable oxygen tanks and then we are in trouble.

Brrr ! -1F is chilly for sure 😳

What is BOSS?
Wrong question.

The right question is........

Who is the BOSS?

This Lady

Bert and Betty are adorable. Silkies and apparently silkie crosses are just darn tricky. If we did not know 100% he was a boy he could still pass for a pullet right now. I believe he is going to make a mighty handsome boy one day. I also feel he is going to be a gentleman and do everyone on FBA proud.
They are cute but darn wild! Bert is just like Henny, if I wasn’t 100% sure he was Fluffy’s egg I would say he was a Henny baby 😊

Tonight I was taking a look at his comb and wattles which are fairly non existent. So yes if I didn’t know he was a he I would say he was a she 😊 I do so hope he doesn’t become a jerk, but I can always put him in the Summer House with Raven and the big bossy girls if he does get bad. Like a big old Clyde mare teaching a young stud manners they would put him in his place!

Does the power company know that there is someone whose life is dependent on power living at your house? If not, you should tell them. They will prioritize restoring power to your house then.

Sleep is for the birds tonight. I have had 30 minutes and I give up. Grandma is having a spell tonight where every 30 minutes to a hour she is needing something, or seeing something. I think she finally may be settling down but me and mom agreed no point in laying down right now. The hospice nurse is supposed to be here early this morning. Right now we are tired but functional. If either one of us laid down to get a hour or two nap and then got up for the nurse we would be dead to the world and feel worse then we do now. It is also 0 degrees outside. 0 people. I cannot remember when it has been this cold. As soon as it gets daylight I have got to bundle up and get outside. My horses and chickens need water. No question it froze overnight. Water hose froze over 2 days ago so I am having to pack them inside to fill. I am so ready to send this weather back up north where it belongs. There is about 8 inches of white trash on the ground. Thankfully it is a dry *cough*snow*cough*. It might be bitterly cold but at least it is not soaking the layers of clothing making outside chores worse.
Gosh 8” of snow ugh. I might have 2”, but ice under that. I had the mares trimmed last night so the ice is hard on their tender feet.

The chooks enjoyed picking through the hoof trimmings this morning hahaha eww yuck! They eat horse poop and hoof crud! Lovely….

Temperatures dropping here - hopefully won't get to -1. Remind me, do you have any heat in the coop or are they OK at that temperature on their own. I am just looking at anything I can do to help my ladies before mid-week when it gets bad.
They are now all fully feathered (apart from the ones the hawk ripped out), so I was hoping they would be OK.
They will be. They can survive well below 0°F. Especially with your setup. Close all the doors to the outside at night. They will be fine. I used to have to worry about Betty because she was a frizzle. Regular chickens can handle it as long as there is no moisture or wind on them.

Randy has gone to his new home. The lady who came was about my age and a self-described "crazy chicken lady". We determined only one of those would come get a rooster at 8 p.m. in 3° weather. She texted on the way home with him that he was being quiet as a mouse in the box I stuffed him in (that was an adventure) and that she loved him already! She's promised to let me know when he's settled in and if he makes her any pretty chicks.

All in all, it's 100% for the best and I think I found him a really good home!
Best outcome possible. He's a lucky lad. :thumbsup
