Peavey Mart Chick Days are open now (for Alberta) I'm ordering some red broilers and some breeds specified as "specialty egglayers". They have adorable bantams, and I was thinking of getting some for Muffin (to keep her company; she's disabled so she can't go in the big coop. She'd turn into their afternoon snack :sick)

But I decided they might outlive her, and then what would I do with them? So standard it is. I'm thinking about the buff orps, maybe black australorps, but what really caught my eye was the blue laced gold wyandottes and cream legbars. And the buff Brahmas, sapphire gems, midnight majesty marans, lavender orpingtons, and speckled Sussex.
I want ALL of them :love
(They misspelled Ameraucana on the website, by the way)
They must be also getting their chicks from Hoovers then, the Midnigjt Majesty Marans is their brand.

But we don’t have any bantams on my site…

Oh yes speckled suspects would be lovely 😊💕

Another egg from Hen-Rietta this morning. I found Sir Jaffar guarding it. She had long since left after laying it. I’m not going to incubate her eggs, or anyone’s for that matter. But I might increase my tribe size this spring.
My preference would be:
EE’s
Speckled Suspects
Brown Leghorns
Or possibly Buff Brahmas or Orpingtons
I’m not convinced yet. :old :idunno
You're one I see making a decision AT the store....

My 2 cents: Henrietta needs some mini her running around and so does Dakota. If cochins are available, personally I think a couple would be a good idea also.

Oh me too - but I am a bit embarrassed I don’t know who is laying what.
The egg I think is from Tassels is laid in Sylvie’s box - where she spends the night to avoid the bully Piglet.
How Piglet - who is tiny - gets to be the class bully I will never understand!
I hear ya, I have no idea who is laying what! I have a long weekend here so I plan on staying in the barn to see who is laying what.

I would really like to know if Larry is laying normal eggs now she is on calcium tablets.

Tippy is a wee thing and terrorizes most of the others - but she is so darn cute I can’t be mad at her

My brahmas don't get picked on. My ladies will peck at bare legs to get someone to move down the roost. They couldn't find the legs to peck...and left the feathers alone.
It might just be something in my coop then. There are five Butt Orpingtons, 5 Wyandottes, and 4 Brahmas. I think the problem really starts if one of them breaks a foot feather the others will all dive in to have a snack of blood.
