Every night they haul their butts up there in the hopes I will let them roost there.

And every night I one by one haul their cute little tushes down and herd them into the Hen House 😊

Silly game show tax 😊

Curly this evening
What a day! 17C and gorgeous sunshine, the chooks were just having a blast dirt bathing, running amok, up on mount poopmore… out in the paddock- I relented and let them go wild.

I seem to have bruised my ribs; the chooks have been digging up mount poopmore and ruining my nice path I have going up the manure pile that is use to push the wheelbarrow up there. This morning I slid off the edge of the path and fell against the handle of the wheelbarrow landing on my left side upper ribs, it wasn’t bothering me until I went to bed. Another sign that I am not 19 anymore!

I typed 'Pretty Chicken, and this was the first one! I guess @featherhead007 is wrong about his feather dusters versus silkies!!! :lau

They are adorable - and have personality to boot, too. hmmm, no, I will not look into silkies, I will not look into silkies!!! I have too many that go broody already - I will not look into gorgeous, fluffy, broody silkies!

Well now, to be fair, Marty only goes broody once a year, Henny also. Fluffy and Curly are all over the map.

The one I least expect to go broody was Sophia!! At her age going broody for the first time I felt was extraordinary, and then to raise those chicks was amazing! I told her she could go broody again and I would give her a few more to raise 😊

At any rate I say go for it! Get silkies, just don’t expect them to be able to free range, mine can’t see without my trimming their head feathers, they fly worth 💩, but crash to earth real well, they can’t run fast at all, and they are dumb as stumps in rain - they will stand out in the rain, get soaked and start shivering- I have to dry them off and put them in my heated feedroom.

Other than that they are great little birds 💕

My worry is my parent's dog mainly. I think I could manage something with letting them know ahead of time though. I do have the option of some 6 foot high chain link fence, I just have to mount it to a frame mostly. We're thinking of fencing the backyard anyways since our dog takes off into the forest behind it when he goes out.
We have 5 or 6 acres, mostly forest though! But there's a very nice backyard that they can use.
Oh my, that’s dreamy!
Yea I guess I was picturing having fencing that is easily movable if you wanted to shift where they were ranging, and while chain link is super heavy… you have so much room it won’t matter if you put up permanent fencing! Nice 🤤

Gah! Oh no! How dreadful, I hope it heals up quickly.
Many of us have slipped in turds… but there has to be some sort of an elite crew of folks who can claim they’ve slipped on a whole mountain of poop.
