I am told all eggs have that germinal spot, but that only the ones that have been fertilized will show a bullseye image. If you compare the spot in this phot to the other you will see the spot is ringed making it look like a bullseye.

Granted yes the second photo isn’t as good as the spot is more to the side but still it doesn’t show a good ring that I can see.

Oh, oops. I’m sorry! I had no idea. Another pretty egg!

If you figure out how to do that please share the secret. I am overrun with them too.
Don’t the fox get them? Can’t they dig out their burrows?
For woodchucks you can divert them by poring cat litter into their holes they say, they hate it. We’ve done that and they don’t use that hole anymore.

Babies tote was moved out to the coop this evening. This morning I hung a 2nd heating pad next to where the tote was going. I turned it on this morning so that they have a warm spot outside the tote for when they get out. I also opened the upper port. Will probably open the bottom port tomorrow. Surprisingly, Sherlock isn't looking for "his" babies.

Do the Kalmbach foods help them lay dark yolks? My girls very much like their Scratch & Peck, but fed on it’s own their yolks look pretty anemic.
Fresh greens and free range time helps with that. As will marigold flowers (they love them, by the way. I grew a border of marigolds once....they got into it and devoured the WHOLE. STINKING. BED - just a few ratty looking main stalks left! But, they had bright yolks for a good week or so!!

Petunia update

Well! I just got in from evening chores, I like to give the chooks a final once over when they are all snoozing - while I was doing a final check/headcount I noticed that Petunia had laid a soft egg and a normal egg!

I palpated her belly and the mass I felt was gone! So seems it was an egg I felt.

Not sure why she picked up after I started the antibiotics but likely because the stuck egg might have been causing a low grade infection.

So I am eggstatic that she passed the eggs and I will keep her on the calcium for the foreseeable future.

Boy that X-ray sure didn’t show that egg did it?! I wonder if an ultrasound would have shown it?
It seems (from google) that fully formed eggs with shells are usually pretty obvious on X-rays. She might have had the soft shell one in there, but would you have managed to palpate that from the exterior? Maybe.
I’ll bet that somewhere along her gut, either the gizzard itself or a bunch of intestines, were swollen due to infection or worms and that has subsided since she’s being treated.

The center of those clothes racks is a nice comfortable place to hideout. And if a customer comes along you can always scare them to death! :lau
I am sure that’s how I was found 😁

Now I have chickens to scare the begeepers out of me!

Petunia looking good this morning
