Good morning everyone.
I am so happy for my little Branch.
He is such a good rooster, best ever around chicks but when it comes to having hens that are his and his alone he has had poor luck. He has the cochin girls who stick by him but never come to him when he tidbits he has found food. None of them do and it hurts to see him tidbitting away with some nice treat and the girls just walk right by. I was sitting out back this morning having coffee and had some strawberries that were forgotten in the fridge to toss out to the girls. Branch and Bubba both start tidbitting over the strawberries. Of course the girls all surround Bubba, all except one. My sweet little Poppet is glued to Branch's side. Branch would give her a strawberry and after a few bites would move on to the next one and start tidbitting. Poppet would abandon her half eaten berry and run to him and take the next one. This went on for a good 5 minutes and she sampled half the berries that were tossed out with him. It has taken me 3 years but Branch finally has his hen. I've also noticed that she is always also in his general vicinity even if she is relaxing. Her nest spots, are nests that Branch has found and made for her. 2 more days and I will candle the eggs in the incubator. Crossing my fingers there are some little Branchlets developing along with the rest.
