Thank you. I'm okay - a bit swamped with f/t work + teaching 1/2 time, plus all my chooks and some littles (35 + 7 with a broody) and some other issues going on - plus still need to get my new computer set up....BUT: I did get one!

I miss you all and am sooooooo far behind. Hoping to slowly crawl my way to the 'front line' over the next couple of weeks!

The Remembrance Continues

Today we are going to explore all of the roost fights that Lilly either instigated or was involved in. Some of these are epic.

This one is a long determined battle between Lilly and Hattie. I have no idea why she just did not want poor Hattie to roost that night. A very young Aurora gets some pecks as well. You will also see Maleficent in this video.

Yet another take down of Hattie

Here is Lilly using Jabber as protection from Patsy. Lilly had grabbed the prime spot and Patsy just could not stand it. However, what to do about that rooster in the way?

Patsy and Lilly used to have epic roosting battles. This is a good example. The tunneling technique was always a favorite.

Just so everyone doesn't think Lilly was always unreasonable towards Hattie, how about a nice quiet roosting video. You can see Aurora trying to figure out where she should roost in this one. That spider web on the right is really annoying. I remember cleaning that the next day.

I also am amazed at how cool of a cucumber Jabber was: Do-de-dooo. Ignoring the Ladies' mayhem here. Don't try to drag ME into your personal war. Lilly.
He bobs and weaves pretty well to 'stay out of her way' without actually moving - very impressive!

Introducing the current residents of Fluffy Butt Acres

As you can see from the front of the coop, we currently have 4 residents. Patsy, Lilly, Hattie & Jabber.

Patsy & Lilly have been here the longest and we ar enot really certain what kind of birds they are but they are likely Black Sex Links. Hattie and Jabber have just joined the flock this summer as they were chicks we got back in April. Here are their individual photos.

She is our alpha hen and is extremely friendly. While not a big fan of being picked up she comes right up to you and will talk and visit.

Lilly is currently #2 in the pecking order and intends to stay there. She has become our little enforcer and she defends the flock from such terrors as squirrels, rabbits, doves, and most importantly, ducks.

@Ponypoor and any hatching from not silkie eggs from not black skinned hens will be Bert...and I THINK (not positive on it) pullets.......unless it's like barring and the hen has to have it and the roo not.... research time again.

Ok..@nicalandia knows a LOT about silkie breeding. If I'm understanding correctly, a black skinned male will produce sex-linked babies when the female is white/yellow skinned. The babies will be black skinned females, light skinned males.

I had both my girls from the time they were 9 weeks old. I loved every phase of their lives. It is biased I know, but there is nothing cuter then a Golden Retriever puppy. It is a good thing they are so cute, it helped me survive the teething phase or "Land Shark" era. Those needle teeth are sharp and they hurt. Goldens naturally want something in their mouths so I do not advise t-shirts in this stage. Then they hit the teenage months where everything you have taught them until that point they forget and essentially flip you off. Where is this calm well mannered dog goldens are known to be? If you survive and do not give up on them at around 2 you will be blessed. Overnight a light switches and you have the worlds most perfect dog. Loving, calm, affectionate, best breed around children. It makes those dark days all worth it. With my girls it seemed 5 was the magic number. The first sign of grey hair creeping in around their eyes. By 8 a good part of their face was grey. They wore it with dignity. That grey to me was symbol of love and a reminder to cherish each day with them. There is one drawback to Golden Retrievers, they do not live long enough. Cancer is very prevalent in the breed. If you get 10 years every day after you count your blessings. When they go they take a huge piece of your heart with them.
How I miss those sweet faces. Ginnie has been gone 10 years now and at times the pain is still as sharp as it is right now remembering Gracie.
