Found either a fairy egg or one of the new crew started laying.

The green to rhe left is an extra large from Pippa or Maizie. The smallish brown and white to the right are from Cheetah's daughters. The white is either Lark or Indigo and the brown Chia or Shan.

If the tiny egg is a new layer, all but the Brahmas and wyandottes will be 20 weeks on Monday (those are a week behind). Based upon comb/wattles/attitude, Hetty (australorp), Focus (barred rock), and Kate (Rhode Island red) are the possible. Blurr and Jane aren't quite as developed as their sisters.

Will have to crack the egg to determine which it is, however, 1st egg watch is commencing.

Farewell My Friend

It is with great sadness that I share this.

Last night Phyllis passed away in her sleep.

She was very active yesterday and I should have seen that as a sign. She left the coop for the first time in days and just like in old times she positioned herself under my feet.

I just finished making arrangements for her cremation. Mrs BY Bob wants to finally let her be in the house with us.

It will never be the same here. She was my shadow when I was outside. I'm certain for the rest of my life I will check my feet to make sure that I'm not going to step on her.

Be at peace my dear friend. You will never be forgotten.
I'm so sorry to read this. FBA will certainly not be the same without her glamour. She will remain in my mind the most parisian polish hen. I will be listening to her soundtrack today in her memory.
Sadly it sheds a different light on her behaviour with the nest, she may have known she was getting to the end of her path.
Goodbye Phyllis, you will forever dance in style in our hearts 💚.

Wow 20 weeks already? I can’t believe how time passes so fast now.

I wouldn't call that a "fairy" egg but more of a first egg from a pullet.

This is a true "fairy" egg

... and was a precursor sign of reproductive issues later showing other stress laying by the same little hen that finally got put down at the vet for a bleeding ovarian tumor.

The little Silkie that layed these eggs was a good little layer laying well into her 6th year but from her first layed pullet egg she was always very agitated and crying I thought sounded like pain until the egg was layed and then she'd be happy and normal until ready to lay again -- she would dig and scratch so hard in the nest box that she tore off a couple of her toenails and actually clawed off a couple toes from scratching in agitation!

Such a sweet little girl. If you magnify this photo you may notice one of the missing outer toes. This little sweetie had so many other health issues from which the vet saved her but the bleeding tumor was the last straw he couldn't save :(

She was such a beauty♥️

So this is a semi Caturday Saturday. Let me explain. So yesterday, I thought it would be a good idea to bring Grandma and the kitten inside the house. They were listening to MJ. First it was an instrumental version of Billie Jean, then it was the official video for Smooth Criminal. MJ's music videos are like a cinematic experience. Thriller is over 13 minutes long and Smooth Criminal is over 9 minutes long. They were enjoying Smooth Criminal until the one scene where someone was moaning/yelling. This is where the kitten gets a bit scared but for some reason, he decides to go to sleep throughout the whole video. This is a semi Caturday, because Grandma is in the picture but who said cats can't be around chickens? Well, these two are far from being friends. They are scared of each other but they have remained calm througout their entire duration of their stay here. It was quite hot outside so they deserved it.
