I often see some of the hens do that with my roosters if they try to keep just one small piece of good stuff for themselves , and I always think to myself "how rude !" But I never saw the chicks doing it. Maybe because the two broodies I had, tended to leave anything good to eat to their chicks ? I had trouble getting them to eat enough until they weaned the chicks.

I also wonder if it could mean your chicks are female.
Have some of you who raised male chicks ever seen them doing that ?

I have two late Pony Sunday pictures, a few of my neighbour's cows and calves with the former abandoned old horse, now renamed Mojo and definitely living with them (although the human drama has escalated to a very sad no return point). They had broken out of their enclosure. Apparently something scared them, either one of the LGD or a wolf interested by the calves maybe.

And this is an all in one mug / twofer / thirsty pic, Piou-piou and Théo. It's just missing a butt 😉.

It’s sad to hear the feud with the horse is still ongoing. At any rate the horse doesn’t seem too worried ♥️

As always I love the background scenery, just lovely ♥️

This is very true. It will be interesting to see who let's go of them first or if they both let go at the same time.
Curly and Fluffy were within a few days of each other; Fluffy was the first to walk away from them. And a few days later Curly also let them go. They were almost 3 months I think by then.

Right now Curly’s chicks were hatched 28th May, that’s 2 months. The MMMarans boy is off on his own more and more. But the wee Lavender Orp Lavern sticks with mama.

I had some leftover biscuits and french fries for the chickens. I gave the fries to the adults and saved the biscuits for the chicks. While in the coop with the babies Randy comes to see what I am doing. I save him a piece and when I leave I toss it to him since he was by himself thinking he would eat it. He happily grabs it and instead of eating it he proudly runs around the house. I follow and find him out front tidbitting away until his favorite hen Trampy Judy shows up and he gives it to her. Randy she did not need that, she got more then her fair share of the fries, it was for you. I then head to the back door to avoid the yellow jackets that have taken over the front porch and have a panic attack while walking up the steps. I look towards the fan and see rooster tail feathers surrounding the fan. What the heck, I yelled for Bubba thinking he would move and nope. Ok, Bubba always at least acknowledges me when I call for him so I fear the worst and go see what is happening. Is Bubba hurt or dead, nope. He is asleep with his butt less then a inch from the front of the fan blocking all the air. Dirt is glaring at him by the way, that is his fan. It is only 78 but humid and Bubba is no dummy, he knows how to stay cool. He could have at least moved a little bit though to let me know he was not dead.

So during lockdown tomorrow, do I move a feeder and waterer into the maternity coop and close it up for a couple days? Nobody else is using the coop so I'm fine making it into a haven for mamas and chickies.
I generally just did business as usual with Henny Penny. I did offer her food and water a couple times a day, and if she got off the nest herself that was fine also. I just leave it up to the mamas, as long as no one is harassing them, or they don’t get in the wrong nest box.

Sheesh! Been there - I saw reenie asleep out in the paddock called her - no answer.. start walking over…. Truly and Lu start walking towards me. reenie just lays there….

Now I run to wards her…. Calling reenie reenie - still no answer - eye half closed laying there…. I run up to her, eye snap open and she scrambles up almost trampling me……

Ok she’s ok. Note to self - next time throw a rock at her first before scaring the crap out of her and almost getting hurt.

😳

Ha! Glad yoy both are O.K. horses sure know how to play dead even if they dont mean too! I hear so many people get phone calls that there horses are dead, even though in realty, they are asleep in the most awkward positions that makes my jaw drop just thinking about how uncomfortable that position might be....
