Who is best at guessing breeds?
I looked her up, but still I’m guessing what breed.

What ever breed she is, I think she wants to study for dentistry. She’s always after pecking at my teeth.

Wasn't Arizona a New Hampshire? She was lighter than Dakota is. Is this little one looking like Arizona? I'm not as familiar with the NH birds, but I think it's a distinct possibility.

yea I remember that small pix vaccine as a kid - and still have the mark on my arm. I get asked about it from medical personnel sometimes. The younger set don’t know what it is!!!!! Thank god!

My grandfather had polio, my good friend had polio, he has long term respiratory issues from it; as a nurse I cared for people who had polio as kids (oh I am not old enough to have to worry about it I just cared for the elderly who had it as a child), I doubt nurses this day and age would see a patient who had polio as a child, most would be passed on now. Diphtheria - rarely see it these days thanks goodness. And many other diseases, next to antibiotics, vaccines are the next greatest discovery for childhood diseases.

I get my horses done every year for rabies, tetanus (very prevalent with horses), west Nile, Potomac fever, equine encephalitis, and equine influenza. Cheaper than spending 1000’s if they get sick - or die.

Poultry hatcheries here are govt regulated, but there are not that many of them. We just don’t have to same population to support the hatchery industry like you do in the US. The main birds sold at commercial hatcheries are meat and layers; there are no large hatcheries where one can get the variety of more exotic breeds.

My MIL and my Sunday School asst both had polio as children 1940-1950 and they were crippled for life from it and both passed away by 60 ~ not sure that was an associated cause? As for small pox I think I was given a placebo vaccination since I never developed the telltale scab or scarring. I felt cheated since all the other kids bragged about their scars!

These days there are childhood vaccinations for measles, whooping cough, tetanus, and chicken pox but not in my childhood 80-90 yrs ago. My sis in 1934 got whooping cough at 3 months and nearly died and I had the fun of getting measles and chicken pox as a kid a few yrs later.

I've never had any modern crucial shots like covid, pneumonia, shingles or other old people shots and I survived those anyway. Well, not the shingles but mom survived it. My DD survived a coma from viral encephalitis of the brain (same virus that causes chicken pox and shingles) so what else does the viral world want to throw at my family before new vaccines become available to us?

Yes, I'm a hearty supporter of animal vaccinations but unfortunately not too many kinds are developed for chickens. If a poultry business euthanizes an infected flock they just hatch a new warehouse of replacement chicks in 21 days to take to market in less than 2 months ~ chicken life is easily replaced in short order. Only Marek's was important enuf for chicken vaccinations in the poultry industry. Why are chickens so easily dismissed as nonessential creatures I'll never understand. Rant over

I’m hoping that she is as friendly as Arizona was. I’m not sure that there is any hen on the planet as friendly as Arizona was.
Seems like the best ones always leave me!

The list currently doesn't have lavender orpingtons either. That's why I'm wondering where they're getting their eggs....the breed list seems to keep changing.

My local breeder says her breed and color variety availabilities change often because of laying schedules. I had to wait 9 months for my order to get filled to get the exact birds I wanted.
