Dakota thinks that she has me fooled. She wanted inside the house to get some attention and feed. She’s been eating non stop for 20 minutes. Looking at me and wondering if I am going to kick her redheaded butt back outside. Yes, she goes back out. I’m leaving town for a few hours in the morning. (No chicken sitting tonight)

Ok friends, especially those with Polish and Polish cross experience. Little Adele or Julio is now officially 6 weeks old. I have noticed in the last week wattles are starting to appear. Now to me and my experience with chicks 5 to 6 weeks old does not mean I panic, it is normal. I took these pictures a few minutes ago. With great difficulty I might add. My little chicken nugget was determined sitting on my hand was not good enough. Tonight she/he was determined to sit on my head. All I have to go by at the moment is the head poof and appearance of wattles. Her tail feathers so far scream pullet.

So friends, what do we think? Are we looking at Adele or are we looking at Julio?

If you think boy, let me have it. I can take it. It has long been determined boy or girl this one is a keeper. I cannot believe I'm saying this but it is pulling the same stunt Branch did when I lost Drummie. It has always been the friendliest. While the silkies have warmed up to me finally, this one. This one is proving to be special.

Gosh sorry to hear your arm is still not back up to par. But soon it will be! Meanwhile I can say for all of us we are enjoying your tale.

I have heard of the Breda, but there doesn’t seem to be many around.

Greenfire Farms imported different Breda varieties a decade ago and rare breed enthusiasts grabbed chick stock from GF immediately. However, low gene pool caused lack of hardiness and low customer interest caused breeders to close out their breeding programs. I believe I was the last to get a closeout Cuckoo Breda in the USA back in 2017. There is one active Kansas Breda breeder trying to keep BBS Breda stock alive by cross-breeding w/ La Fleche to attempt hardiness improvement but I'll be in my grave before that flock is finalized .

Nobody seems to appreciate my stale jokes anymore.
It’s not easy to find new material to be funny. The world is not a fun place lately. Fires, heat, floods, volcanic activity, etc. the list goes on. Maybe I should just crawl under a Rock, but I can’t. They always seem to move away when I try. View attachment 3907989
