@SimpleJenn ~ not a true Halloweeny name but my Keiko's momma was called "Pumpkin Spice" which fits the holiday :)

Thats such a good picute! You should crop it and upload it to BYC chicken calendar contest!

This, this right here is what I think a couple of my chicks will end up looking like. Patsy is also going to be similar but instead of black I believe she will have blue or grey mixed in with the brown.
Partridges come in such a variety of shades and colors ~ blue/gold, dark partridge w/gold necklace and speckled gold wing feathers, silver partridge, blue/gray, moorhead, buff partridge, and a variety of color tones! Every Silkie we've had has been Partridge. Only one Silkie years ago was a true Black. We personally found the partridges the hardiest Silkie variety.

Of course Moorhead is my favorite so far cuz of the contrast of gold and black - "Pumpkin Spice" from Buckaboo Farm

Our "Keiko" is the Moorhead in the middle. "Pumpkin Spice" was her momma.

I’m about 100 pages behind. Keep trying to catch up before posting. (I should know better.)

Unfortunately it is sad news that prompted me to go ahead and post. We lost our Sassy girl last night. She had been doing better, had gained weight back up to over 4 lbs after being down to just over 2 lbs and was obviously feeling better. But I knew it probabaly wouldn’t last long, and a few days ago started acting a little off again, and spending time camped in a nest box. She hadn’t laid since May, so I knew she probably had another lash egg she was trying to get out. Yesterday morning she seemed uncomfortable, and I gave her some calcium hoping it would help her and put her back on Baytril again. Last night she was obviously struggling, and I knew if she didn’t manage to pass whatever she was struggling with that she probably wouldn’t make it until morning. Gave her another calcium and did what I could to make her comfortable, but unfortunately I was right. She apparently passed not long after that.

Farewell my Sassy little girl. I’m sorry you had to leave us so soon (she was just over 2 years old), but I hope I made these last two months of extra time I tried to give you worth living for you. I’m glad you got to spend some time with the new little firecrackers (will try to post updates on them in a few days). At least you and Goldy are together again, I know you searched for her and called for her for several weeks after we lost her.

Sassy from the start, she was the first to fly up in my back.

The second to start laying eggs.

Enjoying some time outside in the hospital coop I bought (more later on the bargain I got).

Teaching the firecrackers about the Way of the Chicken. Including that scratch is good, but to respect their elders.

And her final picture, with her favorite treats before we laid her to rest.
So sorry for your loss. Sassy was beautiful and entertaining. :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

Yes, this is a darling picture of my "Keiko's" momma from Buckaboo Farm but it's not my photo.

The following is my photo of the 3 Silkies we got from Buckaboo. My babies all grown up now!

All but 1 of my silkies have been some type of partridge. Poppy my first pullet and Branch's sister was a true black.

Branch, the first year he was solid black. Then I noticed a few gold feathers coming into his hackle's. They never progressed into his wings or the rest of his body. I suspect he could have been a partridge. He threw partridge with both Chiquita and Poppet. I met his dad, he also looked like Branch did.

I then bought Chiquita. She was sold as a buff. She came in terrible shape, but once she molted out and a few months of care she blossomed. She was also not a buff, but a partridge.

Branch and Chiquita produced Ezzie

They also produced the infamous "Tiger Chicken". I can kick myself over her to this day. I jumped the gun when the colors came in and assumed to early cockerel and let my cousin and her grandson have her. Told them I suspected cockerel. I let go of a pullet dang it.

Now I have Poppet

I got 6 chicks from her and Branch. 4 of them are showing signs of Partridge. 1 appears to be a true black for now, the 6th could go either way.
