I thought the heat would slow down my kiddos but they are fairly steady, but I have been keeping the fans going pretty much nonstop here; it’s cooler now, much cooler in fact - brrr!

My 6 oldest chicklets are 15 weeks old so they should be laying in another month or so. The cool weather will be here by then. I wonder if they will lay through the winter..?
Our Silkies have no seasonal schedules. We get eggs from them all through the year ~ lay eggs, stop, go broody, stop broody, lay eggs again, stop, go broody, lay eggs again, stop, etc etc etc. The poor things will even lay while moulting!

Although none of our backyard hens have ever gone bald from moulting? The only way we know a hen has moulted is when we see new pin feathers under regular fluff. The worst any of our breeds have moulted is losing their tails and maybe a wing feather around the yard. I probably should knock on wood we've never had a bald hen?!

One thing for sure is a hen w/pin feathers hates to be handled.

DANA last year w/ one tail feather left to lose.

Rudy, my Wyandottey is doing a great job with the ladies. But he’s not the snuggly type that Sir Jaffar was. I am a bit disappointed 😢
I think I need to work with him more. But it’s a toss up between me or his ladies.
Better he's good w/ the hens than w/you! Steal one of his hens to cuddle. Remember, we don't choose a chicken ~ it chooses YOU.

I picked Dana as my favorite Dom chick, nursed her thru pasty butt, spent time handling her but my DH is her human! To my surprise Dana's sister Jewlz picked me as HER human! Just never know w/ these birds?

Dana ~ she only allows DH to hold her and she voluntarily hops into his lap.

Jewlz would pick me to hop onto my knee to say "hello" ~ I was her human ❤️

Corn and grits. Peas and such.
I was giving Grandma grains (from Cluck and Co at TSC check them out) and she was enjoying them until the twins arrived. Oi, the twins! They seem to like the grains just as much as the dried mealworms. They ran immediately to the cup and wanted to eat. I tried to give Grandma space, but in the end, I gave them some and eventually showed Grandma the empty cup. She was able to have more grains. Funny thing is, when they eat the grains, they end up with powder on their face.

He's indicating his own personality. How different is he from BEN and BLU?

Better continue the Easter egg hunt in the loft....
Not so bad right now as only the one side has hay in it.

But, yes I will need to put up some mesh in that doorway to keep the brats who can fly, out of there.

The hay is now on the left side of the loft leaving the centre and right side empty - I have had raccoons in there in the past but I try to keep them out of the barn as they are messy, and carry diseases, not to mention dangerous to the chooks.

The brown eggshell also says at least crossed with something else. Puzzler at the moment.
I have been giving it some thought, and come to the conclusion that can’t really know as the persons sending the eggs are not forthcoming.

But I would say a good chance of getting green eggs from her 😊♥️
