It’s awesome! I love how open it is ♥️ Nice job!

It looks great!
I am with you on the salvage and perfectionism. When building the Chicken Palace I scored 5 double hung Anderson windows from a house that was being demolished.
They are great. One had a broken section of the grid that fits on the inside. Purely decorative, so who cares? Me! It bothers me each time I see it and I have to remind myself “5 fully functioning Anderson windows, one tiny decorative flaw!”
So silly!

You can see the missing grid section just above Bernie’s right shoulder. Ignore Sylvie photobombing.

Thanks!

@RoyalChick that would make me crazy too! :lau I think it's perfectly appropriate to be bugged by this. Our chickens deserve the best after all. :)

They have to lay until they have a clutch to hatch, right? Eenie laid several eggs when she was broody.

Except for mounting the door, installing the pop door, and putting in the linoleum, the coop is done. And the roosts need installed too...so, yeah, not really done at all. :(

The joy of using reclaimed materials...we ran out of white painted plywood. That back right corner had to be finished with brown. I was super annoyed, but I've decided to think of it as the flaw they leave in an Amish quilt...a reminder that only God is capable of perfection. (And as my husband kept saying, "It's for f@#&%#g chickens, Honey! They won't care!") I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist.

The chicken wire goes all the way to the roof on the front wall, but not on the nest side. There's a gap of about 10"... but it's 8 1/2 feet to it. Surely they can't fly up that high? Or wouldn't bother?

I know...not predator proof. It's not supposed to be. It's to keep chickens in. The surrounding building keeps predators out.

Sadly, hubby's back to work the next 3 nights. I can't do the floor alone, so very little will get done this week and Friday noon we leave for the weekend to attend my uncle's funeral. So I guess they'll have to remain in the current setup until we move them, in two more weeks. :( We keep hoping Red Squadron follows the others into the big coop...but they seem pretty happy with their own.

Here's the best mug I'm getting for this Monday.

Now it's 8 pm again and time for showering off the sawdust and finding something to eat. :frow
Even when you move them into the new coop they will likely stay separated....until Red Squadron starts laying. Then, all of a sudden, they'll be going off in pairs of older and younger and mixed groupings.

Goodbye my friend.

Yesterday I found out Aurora had a really bad prolapse. I tried to shove it back in but she had pooped in her body cavity. There is about an inch of guts outside her cloaca. She does not seem to be lethargic but since she pooped inside I am sure it will get infected. Also it may happen again. I got her inside the barn because the wasps were tormenting her. Today she will be put down because I don't have the heart to let her go on suffering, because, even though I put honey on her vent to keep it from drying out, she went and scratched around in the wood shavings and got wood shavings all over her guts.
Goodbye Aurora, my only Easter Egger. :hit
Bob. I'm really sorry. 😢
:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

She lived the best ever life ❤️ all down to you my friend
