Peel, pit, slice the extra peaches & freezer them in ziploc freezer bags. You'll have peaches all thru winter for peach pie, peach cobbler, or as an ice cream topper, etc.

We harvest way more tomatoes than we can eat or give away. So I peel, seed, and slice the extra tomatoes and freezer bag them and use the chunks all thru winter to add to spaghetti sauce, tomato soup, make salsa, use as extra pizza topping, etc.

Freezer tx

When the newest Silkie chicks were indoors the outside birds watched them thru the sliding door. The glass got so dirty from them pecking at each other at the glass it got so cloudy!

Yes of course. Every year I stock the freezer with apple and peaches for using through the year.
But I have a very busy week planned this week and didn't expect to be dealing with fruit for another 3 weeks!
Wish wish wish I had grabbed mine on Saturday 😢😢😢

Seriously cute baby!

Well that makes me feel better. She's only 2, like I said, but she also has, for several months now, pretty much all this year, taken to laying these super long, skinny torpedo-shaped eggs. Cracked, they look like any other egg. But they are so long they have to be placed at an angle to close a carton! She's also never taken a break from laying really. Slowed a bit in winter, but never totally stopped like the other girls. View attachment 3929400View attachment 3929401
Mera lays eggs like that. She has gone broody every year, takes a break when moulting, and has grown in new feathers. She simply lays longish, skinny eggs.

I got my Adele pictures earlier. No crowing yet but I do feel it is time to start calling Adele, Julio. His poof is starting to go a little wild. Those wattles, the general stance adopted in the last few days. Also, that tail, it is looking less pullet like and more cockerel like by the day. It makes perfect sense. I have never had a chick get this attached to me or me it and it not be a boy.

I present to you all, Julio...

Rosie also now knows and is thrilled. She was out when I was taking pictures and she noticed the changes. She squealed when she spotted the change in the tail. She has her Bert brother.
I am thrilled for Rosie 😊♥️

But sad as I really wanted an Adele for you.

It’s just crazy weather- I think I will pick the pears tomorrow.

I'm thinking Kate was caught by dark working on a late egg yesterday or is thinking about going broody but isnt fully committed yet. Eggs were still warm this morning when she came out with the rest. She was also out when I got home from work.

Come on, ladies. ONE OF YOU NEEDS TO THUMP TUFF.

I have a normal run for daytime, they have a very secure small run and the coops are both predator proofed. They get this bigger run when I'm home, which is most of the time!
We still haven't done the brooder yet, I was going to see if my dad could help me cut the screws tomorrow. They no longer need it but it would be nice to have with the door propped open as another space for them to use. I don't think it'll fit through the run door unfortunately or I would take it out and put more logs in there for now. 20240826_124051.jpg
Chicks using the jungle gym!

Miss pretty bird. One of the butterbirds likes to roost with her, but the other older chicks are standoffish. Except Ric Flair, he is in love. I really hope he turns into a gentleroo, my ladies deserve a good man who dances and gives them treats.

Mud the spud and Nyx. She is a true goth chicken, now I have three (4 if you count Barred Bab) blackbirds and that makes me very happy.

Can't forget Cocoa, he just wants to be with me whenever I'm in there.

I set up a food and water station on the bedding tote to make sure every group has their own food and water.
I still think I'll be keeping one butterbird, who will be named Butterbird. I did catch all three yesterday to look over, couldn't tell which one was attacked. Thank goodness.
