Hubby thinks he'll stay muddy looking but I believe someone here mentioned him getting a red head and shoulders.

@Ponypoor ~ some more trivia ~ talking about dark feathers around the eyes of Silkie chicks in addition to their black skin, legs/toes, beaks, eyeballs ~ the feathers found around the eyes of the chick are always dark feathers (the pure white chicks seem the exception ?). Here's our dark partridge chick w/light gray face. She shows dark feathers around the eyeballs of her little gray chickie face. (The face/head turned completely black later.)

There are blue/gold partridge, buff/blue partridge, dark partridge, silver partridge, Moorhead partridge, & probably red partridge by now too! Why partridge Silkies have so many chick feather color variations is a mystery to me as our dark chick turned almost completely black w/a very very faint gold collar and speckled gold wing tips ~ guess that's why she was a "dark" partridge cuz the gold accents were faint.

All our Silkies have been partridge & one was not partridge ~ she was an all-black Silkie. We have a blue Silkie now but it's like having a partridge only there's no gold undertones in a blue Silkie so technically not a partridge.

I really should read more on genetics but then I've never had interest in technical sciency studies!

How are your Silkies looking now?

Interesting.

Clyde is black with a silver grizzled ‘mane’ of neck feathers, and is a silly little man. He is getting large.

Georgie is still partridge (is that what you call it). S/he is a tiny wee thing. And friendly as anything still.

Poor Mr P

His one lone tail feather is rather rumpled! I will have to cut it short later on, I would pluck it out but those suckers are not easy to haul out! So it will have to remain cut short until he loses it naturally and regrows it.

Meanwhile Sophia is doing a bit better. Today is her last day of antibiotics; she also foiled Fluffy’s attempt at killing and eating a snake - snake got away. And she was trying to peck at Mr P and break his blood feathers, so she had to be removed from the summer house.

Oh yes frizzle - that is a type of feather. In order to show frizzle feathers the bird needs to have a copy of the frizzle gene. It is dominant, so one will have a 50% chance of getting a frizzle when you cross a frizzle on a normal feathered bird.

BUT - 2 frizzle must never be crossed together as the chance of getting a bird with a double set of frizzle genes is bad news. The bird will have feathers that constantly break and other serious health issues.

Betty is a frizzle - her mama is Curly (frizzle silkie) and her dada is Mr P (regular feathered).

I’m disappointed the people that I was to meet at the airport are doing something else tomorrow. I don’t want to get a cab or Uber, then rent a car just for one day. It’s not worth the hassle.

Silly billies need to be put to bed some nights still.

Bean Boy had his dental, vaccinations, and we got his heartworm meds today. 1300 later...we will be eating leaner for a while.
His meds came in a pretty glass bottle though!

Oh no! Does he have heart worm?!

I have used the puppy and kitten strength wormer you put on their skin on Mr P when I first got him for lice and worms - worked great and hey o didn’t kill him with the meds oh I laugh now but I was a wee bit worried at the time. But he was way too wild to handle frequently to treat.

Blooming expensive though.

Now I treat lice with horse fly spray, and ivermectin or Panacur for intestinal worms. More inexpensive!
